I've noticed the in game things in OSRS are more dead with the minigame chats, but the thing is, it can be a number of reason for peak time players are on, also third party software that has changed things. Things like Discord are where the majority of players go to in clan chats that are quite large.

A lot of mmo games are struggling but Jagex still targets the niche market for some of the most grindiest mechanics and collection log completions. This game has countless years of progress to endure and players will always come back for a taste of a new update. I think if they branch out to mutli consoles, this game could really have a better outcome marketing wise for younger people to join.

Its very true that the MMO seems to be past its peak. There also seems to be more and more competition for the same audience. Your viewpoint on expanding into consoles seems like a solid suggestion. For the sake of people that seem to love this game, hopefully someone takes it seriously.

Yes I agree. As much as there is always a market for it, it's a very niche type of game style for the majority of the market.

Thanks for agreeing with the console thing. I know a lot of people don't like the console idea and that's fair as that's their opinion. But I just think if people want the game to survive, expanding out to open markets with Nintendo Switch, Game Pass Xbox model, and Playstation Network would make a lot of sense to market the game and grow it to a larger audience. Mobile gaming obviously is great and to be able to expand that idea to new consoles would be awesome playing your favourite mmo.

I also think with the new Jagex launcher for RS3 and OSRS that now would be the time to start reaching out to possible interested parties.

They will need better EOC first to make a splash in the console market though. They can get on mobile with 0.6s tick when most players don't really do heavy combat on mobiles but consoles will be a different story with more a lot more action based gamers.

Okay but I dont think its necessary for Jagex to compete with 'better, faster, brighter, blah blah' games. Its just about expanding their market and providing access to more customers. Businesses have to expand their market - consoles are an untouched market as of yet.

Take people who may have played RS before, but now ONLY game on consoles. They might get nostalgic, or want to introduce their kids to it. Or have never played and want to see what RS is all about and its there on their consoles.

Doesnt mean it will work. TERA tried it, and it only ended up prolonging the inevitable demise of that game for a couple years (although a revamped version is back). Its still a solid suggestion as long as what it takes to pull it off is cost effective.

Its not like "better faster brighter blah blah" games online has scared RS off.

Who would hop onto consoles to play nostalgic games when they can do it easier on a PC or Mobile?

When we see Runescape on Console with appeals, it will either be a bland new Runescape game like the unannounced survival game Jagex is working on or a Jagex Partner game like Space Punks, or a the remastered modern RS3.

We will see the other Jagex new games on consoles first, while RS3 can take a little more time to build up new foundations and remastered old content for modern customers before they enter the new market.

People that want a full RS experience, which many mobile users claim there are limitations on mobile.

People that dont want games on their PC. They use it for school or work and dont want to clog it up with game requirements.

The kiddies have consoles but not PCs.

Idk, man! Use your imagination!

I myself am going to need to get two laptops soon. One for serious applications and the other for gaming. Laptops because I need mobility that a PC or console cant provide. Why am I telling you this?

I have no idea.

You don't know more kids have phones than consoles and PCs? Use your imagination!

And don't tell me KIDS want to play a game because of nostalgia... unless your imagination leads you to think they started playing it before they were born.

Almost all the MMORPGs on consoles are newer games released after 2013 and packed with EOC style combat.

There are kids whose parents wont let them have constant cell phone access or constant PC access. A console limits their exposure to all the vices the Net and/or Safari have to offer.

There are parents and grandparents right now in the game playing with their kids. We call that sharing the nostalgia - I want my kid to experience what I experienced (i.e. nostalgia).

Excuse me but isnt RS3 based on EOC style combat?

Not everyone lives in your little box, Dilbert.

If you would prefer that RS3 not expand, I would question your motives given that any business must expand their market or face certain death.

Again,
KIDS
are unlikely, if even possible to be nostalgic on old content designed and developed 15 years ago.

Note that I wrote EOC-ish combat, meaning combat with EOC kinds of abilities but not necessarily RS3's EOC. RS3 has EOC but its EOC is based on 0.6s Tick which is inferior to basically all the EOC-ish combat the still-standing MMORPG on consoles.

RS3 can shine on consoles later, but the priority is to get the 0.3s and hopefully 0.1s Tick up first and then add in all the modern VFX then we will be ready for a big push into the console market. And we are already working on the 0.3s Tick and VFX system, and Mod Keeper said he thought we are ready. When we see these things hopefully soon on PC, then it should be long for us to move onto Switch when the new RS Survical Game mapped out the console device abilities for RS3.
