Jagex, as all businesses, have had their hand forced when dealing with Equality and Diversity legislation. This particular Act has been a long time overdue. However it is a 'one size fits all Act' and does not take into account some of the subtleties necessary when applying the legislation in certain circumstances, for example, online fantasy games where certain perceptions of the necessity of the application of the Act are over zealous in a most ridiculously laughable and facile way.
It seems to me Jagex have done the minimum they have been forced to do (due to the Legislation) and have ignored some of the more obscure possibilities that the Act may be applicable to, however effete.
What we don't need is a Vigilantly Vanguard poking sticks at those obscure possibilities that are causing no harm to no one and stirring up a force change to these novelty characters names that will deplete some of the tongue-in-cheek characterization fun that we have enjoyed in this game for many years.
What next? Pulling down statues and trigger warnings for Boss killing?
I know nothing about UK law but if you are saying they were legally compelled to make this change then I would like to know more as I am sure OSRS would be having illegal content then

if this is breaking the law then your opinion of it being harmless is irrelevant

So, rather than petulant finger swaggering, do your research and benefit us all, Jagex included, with your law breaking conclusions and be specific about the problems you see.

I'm reading about the latest Q&A on Reddit and I found something you might like to see:
>---------------------------------------------------------------

"When will Karamja be reworked/revisited? It still feels like RS2.

Mod Jack: Karamja just feels incredibly difficult. The issue is that the npc and building models aren't the problem and we have art teams who can do that. The problem with Karamja is that we have a lot of diversity changes, some of which may not be appropriate. The fundamental concept of Karamja is just this colonial 19th century as a core, and it's something that we no longer really 'want' in Runescape. If we would rework Karamja, it needs to completely reimagined, so that makes it a completely larger project than just a rework. We would need to aknowledge that it has problems, we'd need to delete it. We should go expand on what Karamja would be like, what it'd be in modern Runescape."

it was you who said they did this following legal consequences. if that is true then I have to assume osrs is illegally violating the same thing as no change was made to it. these are just things you have said and me responding to it logically, if that upsets you then maybe you should time out

I have unfortunately been made aware by a character that appears to be inspired by an incredibly anti-Semitic WWII cartoon. I am just providing a QFC reference here so that anyone who is genuinely invested in making this game a fun and safe space, for everyone regardless of identity origin can enjoy, to take a look at it, not to further get flamed at because I am raising tough issues that nobody else seems to take seriously.

i think this post sums this up well

Original message details are unavailable.
Jabari’s a Menaphite follower of Amascut, not Jewish. He’s not wearing any of the Jewish faiths religious attire, instead wearing Menaphite robes.

He’s constantly rubbing his hands as if plotting something evil, because he IS plotting something evil. That’s why the player character ends up fighting him, in a fair duel where he uses underhanded tactics.

His entire dialogue transcript doesn’t make any reference to Judaism or infer any connection.

The only similarities between the two pictures is that both are balding and have big noses, as countless other people and characters do.

Whilst understandably anyone of the Jewish faith would find ‘the happy merchant’ disrespectful because of its negative portrayal and in turn the connotations it’s trying to create by associating Judaism with negative traits. It is not Jabari, and Jabari doesn’t represent the same things.

Long story short -

‘The happy merchant’ = bad, very bad.
Jabari = An unrelated video game character.

it seems people are starting to look for things to say is racist or bad etc etc. and if you look hard enough and maybe do some gymnastics you will always find something...

its better to go after things that actually are racist and causing harm. or harm will be caused by doing this, its just going to distract people from content that is actually causing harm. and that im sure is something you dont wan

Lets stop trying to ruin something when theres clearly no issue with it.

Agree
&
Agree
But it will fall on deaf ears and blind eyes.
I think some people give themselves personal life ticks every time they can find something that, however obscure, they see as a potential diversity trigger and must be eradicated.
Sadly, wokery is trending.
