@Tenebri, I did listen to what you said and responded. It's all good and fine to raise concerns about speaking over communities on their own issues but that reasoning is being misused in a context it doesn't apply to and some of the people who've commented on this thread so far definitely have no interest in having the conversation OP intended whether they bother to pretend otherwise or not. Romani don't all have to take offense to the term for its use with Aris to be an issue and some not minding doesn't mean that none of them do. While some may choose to use it for their own reasons, it's heavily associated with a number of stereotypes that perpetuated a lot of harm that many wish to distance themselves from by refusing to be called that. As I've said before, reclaiming slurs is complicated and the appropriateness of their use varies with context.

You said: Original message details are unavailable.
what you say you see of bad faith attempts to shut down a discussion is just not true. its trying to shut down an attempt for speaking about ethnicities when you cant have a voice on it. because that in itself is offensive.

Even if taken as specifically referring to my response to your claim that I'm talking over minorities, what you're referring to as such is still my explanation to why the names Jagex changed were an issue that warranted addressing or why the discussion about it shouldn't just be shut down on claims that discussing them is speaking over minorities. If that's not what you meant by it then your wording wasn't very clear.

I had to keep it short for the character limit but to clarify my response to your English example, the fact that they aren't an oppressed minority is why your example doesn't work. Neither is catasrophizing about how addressing harmful ethnic stereotypes would lead to arbitrary name changes across the game as if they're equivalent. That's a textbook slippery slope fallacy, as I mentioned before.

oh my being away for a few days apparently missed some drama

@mel at this point im happy to just leave it as agree to disagree, as i dont see any progress in the discussion we are having, for mainly the reasons in my last post, which has carried on to here.

my main and only real point is we cant speak for other ethnicities they have to be the one to say what is and isnt offensive. we cant argue either way.

what i will agree with you on as lets end in a positive or atleast agreeing manner, is that yes it is complicated and thats why i say what i have said, people cant say what is or isnt offensive for another ethnicity / culture.

I'm not and I explained as much already. This is all fundamentally about an existing update to the game and the inconsistencies in how it was done. The stereotypes involved are known and the issues the update was addressing are real. The whole thing about whether or not it was wasn't actually the point of the thread. We didn't even get into Karamja's part in it.

It's nice to know you aren't angry over the disagreement but that doesn't really change that we never really got back to the original point because of it.
