Friends, the end is almost here, and due to time zones I’ll likely be asleep when they flip the kill switch in the morning. I just want to leave you with some final thoughts as our little world caves in, most of which I’m borrowing from people far more eloquent than myself.
I ask you all to do one thing, and it’s this: don’t go gentle into that good night. This was a forum of fighters, malcontents, and curmudgeons, and they all left an indelible mark on my soul, so pick up the torch and carry it wherever life might take you. Always fight the good fight and voice your mind, because how can one die better than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of their clanmates, and the temples of their gods.
Thank you all for these forums, they’ve helped shape half of my life and I’ve made memories here that I’ll carry with me forever. My journey from a bog-standard troll to a weird nostalgia essayist feels like it all passed me by in a flash but I wouldn’t change a second of it for the world. Looking back now from the end I’m reminded of some words by some of the greatest poets of our time, Blink-182:
“And it’s happened once again
I’ll turn to a friend
Someone that understands
Sees through the master plan
But everybody’s gone
And I’ve been here for too long
To face this on my own
Well I guess this is growing up”
As you go wherever the next part of your journey leads, whether it’s Reddit, or Discord, or somewhere else, never forget this place. Down here, it was our time, and we sure as hell made the most of it. As you go off to seek the Great Perhaps, remember Rants, and always keep ranting.
Goodnight, goodbye, hope not forever.
Signing off,
