You understood the article, but can't make anything out of my writing? I actually did read it, even though I am familiar with the topic already. It was amusing. Basically their idea is to celebrate like you won the Super Bowl just for spelling your name right. And don't be afraid to gamble, because you can win more than you can lose. (which is everything)

The one thing I agree with is it's likely a survival mechanism. Like the folks who thought a volcano was filled with shiny diamonds didn't fare as well as the ones who stayed home.

In that case, hunting for diamonds in volcanoes became the negative outcome, so who was right? The survivors, and they are the ones telling the story.

Does that mean in the future they shouldn't go sniffing around volcanoes? YES!

Is there a difference between gaining a small amount or losing it all? Super YES!

This part, how to avoid it. First they talk about breathing. Then:

Focus on the Positive
Negativity bias affects us by making one feel negative events or react to adverse events more strongly than positive ones. An exercise to curb this bias would include focusing on positive events and savoring those events to create positive memories. When enjoying an experience, attempt to engage fully in pleasant sensations, and reflect on the positive developments occurring at the moment

yeah it just means

if you score 9/10 on a test dont focus on the 1 answer you got wrong. you also got 9 correct so grats. rather simple. thats one example i can think of top of my head where it be used.

its definitely not act like you wont super bowl for spelling name right :L thats a weird extreme that doesnt make sense.

its literally "focus on the positive" not over react

So they are saying celebrate failure as being good enough? Maybe that's what people do, which is like totally the opposite of what these folks are describing.

I'm super smart, I got 90% right!

What was the 10%?

The forums are being cack for me lately, from not being able to view images, to not being able to quote posts, and even receiving a white page when clicking the homepage button...

Anyway, that negative bias thing, pretty standard stuff! I skimmed it because the article felt a bit long-winded. Good topic though, people are certainly guilty of it on here in The Moan Zone! (petition to rename it that, please)

That 'loss to gain ratio' of 2:1 I'd argue is more like 3:1, depending on how entitled we get :P
Whilst there is a place for it, to avoid dangers, it can become a problem. Like how anxiety is a natural response to threat (fight or flight) yet some people suffer it when there is no immediate physical danger. The world has changed a lot! but our bodies and minds haven't caught up. That's my stance on a lot of psychology, we're just very clever/assisted chimps.
