The most idiotic aspect of this whole thing is that they could EASILY spin up a replacement for the RSOF using software they don't have to develop (something easy like SMF would work just fine), and it'd take one person to get it done in one day. But nope, they're just being lazy and since it's not making them money (ain't costing them anything either), they just do what they do best: shut it down.

^ They could probably find teams of volunteers to do just that. This is so infuriating.
Exactly. Shoot, if I dusted off my old experience with manually setting up SMF (been ages, I usually just spun up forums for people and clients by using free forum hosts as it's a lot quicker), I'd be more than happy to dedicate a week or two to working with Jagex to get that set up.
Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that won't happen. They're obsessed with dismantling this game and milking it for all it's worth. It's sad, because even though I don't play RS nearly as much as I once did, I still love this game and don't want to see it go under. Unfortunately, I feel like the writing is on the wall with how stupid Jagex's decisions have been recently; plus, the news of them prepping for yet another buyout of the company just proves to me that we're stuck in a cyclical crapstorm where things won't ever get better unless a miracle occurs.

Yup =S This game was my retreat from the real world during childhood, and I use these forums for half a decade before signing up on social media. It's either corruption or laziness driving the decision as cost / resources would easily be offered by the players.
I dread the day they decide to close RS. The more Jagex's owners try to make the game more like the competitors the more it becomes an inferior version of them.

Should the forums truly go; almost anyone from here is free to add me in-game.

Laziness and greed, that's what it is. The higher ups can't see a way to monetize the forums so they use ye olde cost cutting excuse to justify removing a part of the game's history and, conveniently, the place where a lot of old time vets tend to hang out and voice our feedback. Really makes you think, right? It's clear they don't give a rip about any of us who've spent hundreds or thousands of dollars and hours for this game.
I hate to say it but I might have to quit. I don't want to because, despite Jagex's recent stupidity, the game itself is still largely enjoyable even though I don't play much anymore. The main issue is that I don't have the time or the energy to put into grinding for bonds and I can't justify spending $80/year on a game I don't play much, particularly when the company behind it is the scum of the earth.
I also dread the day when it closes but for people like me, it's like they're forcing it closed on us, and I can't believe that the Jagex I once loved -- the company that once showed a clear care for the players, even among their own mistakes -- is now treating us WORSE than numbers on a sheet. They see us as lower than the filth in a sewage treatment plant and man, is it disgusting to see.
I don't play too many online games these days because of garbage like what Jagex has done but I have two that will become my home for good if Jagex doesn't do a very, very clear 180. If they want to keep me as a player, they best do that quickly.
