Everyone should take warning:
BECAUSE OF THIS PRECEDENT, WE CAN NO LONGER BE CONFIDENT THAT OSRS/RS3 WILL NOT EVENTUALLY MEET THE SAME FATE.

I have offered the company a deal: allow me to personally pay the cost to maintain ONE SINGLE SERVER. I have offered to contractually pay any additional costs it would take to keep our history and progress alive, while allowing the company to keep all membership profits from a single server's players.
Jagex has denied me this request

"I'm afraid we're not offering it."

When asked about a source code release:

"If the company gives it away, it can never consider [profiting from it] it in the future, even though it doesn't currently have plans to do so."

Jagex has turned from a small business of three brothers, to a large, greedy corporation that will backstab the very community that gave them their riches in order to pinch pennies.

Welcome to the new age of RuneScape. I'm really sorry for those who missed out on the great years.

"RuneScape Classic" is and always be the true RuneScape, and no amount of corporate greed or microtransactions can change that.

RSC Forever.

We were never confident that the 'service' of OSRS / RS3 stays up. Online games come and go. It sucks, but there's never a guarantee they stay afloat for many a year to come. It's not uncommon to believe either version(or both) will eventually cease to be. However, the mobile version of both will boost players significantly, as RuneScape is pretty much going to dominate the playstore. You'll get so much out of it compared to most F2P mobile 'apps'.

The reason Jagex gave(about the hosting) was a poor one. They can do something with it in the future, even with you hosting RSC. They could hand it over, while still retaining full rights to it...If you were to agree with such a contract.

I agree with the "greedy" part. There's monitization, and then there's overmonitization.

Jagex keeps advocating "If something's too good to be true, it probably is", but has no problems showing you TH drops you're likely to not obtain. "Your next key could win you...".

They keep saying they look into things such as "dailyscape", as they acknowledged on Reddit that it's an issue. Recent updates, however, are pretty much still dailyscape. You'd think they'd at least try to imrpove aspects of it. They do not.

If their mobile version takes that much developers, you're doing something wrong.

Remember, we're not the customer, their investors are.

All in all, they could've at least provided an offline version of RSC.

Bucket,

That reply and that edited photo means a lot to me. If I could have crowned you a bucket on Classic, I would have.

Thanks for the smile, mate.

I don't know what the walls of your analogy would be, I wouldn't mind RSC coming back. But I understand the reasons it is gone.
I do believe that Rob is going the wrong way about arguing for RSC to the point where he is making it less likely. He could do it without the lies, slander and propaganda.

100% truth. Agreed.

Draco plz

That's what I'm thinking lmao. Another troll account. But "the forums aren't broken"

you can check profiles and see the time one started posting and the other began. it is probably reportable to evade a moderation by using an alt.

on topic I think rsc was closed due to bots and jagex just didn't want to clean up their mess. it's embarrassingly cheap to run a rsc server given it was last developed in 2004 and there's hardly any massive calculations done on a mostly empty server to begin with. just laziness on jagex s part and I'm sure they have the money if they invested in oldschool

Oh I'm sure that played a part, but I think as Jagex stated, the reason was they had no one who could fluently code in that language and saw it as a risk should something happen.
Looks worse on them if they were forced to close it due to a bug than choosing to close it.
