There's some great points stated already. I also believe that though it'd be nice to have public discussions about the struggles or seeking advice and the like from strangers; the forums, especially forums for a videogame, are no longer a healthy, feasible option in today's day and age. The tragic reality is that there's some people out there only aspiring to cause others grief without any real motive.

Perhaps a change in title would assuage the situation.

Something along the lines of "Healthy Gaming Habits" or "Healthy Lifestyle" perhaps. A~

Now you are getting somewhere. Not saying from my own prospective it will work but a title does go a long long way to set the tone of the thread.

I also agree with you that it's a very difficult topic and have to take baby steps first. ;)

As I stated we have had a thread dedicated to this in off topic forum and it went well, not sure what all the fuss is about.

I have a recommendation for a potential quest, with it based off of mental health psychoeducation. The quest would, ideally, teach players how anxiety/anger processes within our bodies and how to interrupt that process. I have been using this method in practice with adolescents and it has been incredibly effective, with some families showing immediate ability to regulate anxiety and anger after just one session of learning. While this is great in my practice, teaching this process is limited to a handful of clients at a time. The audience on RuneScape is wide, and, moreover, the problem of anxiety/anger issues are very prevalent, across many societies. I would like to speak to someone regarding this potential for a mental health quest.

Thank you,

Although I understand that your intentions are not ill, these RSOFs are not well-equipped nor the appropriate place to look for mental health assistance. Whenever someone is in need of help, they ought to look for professional assistance, something that may be scarce here on this gaming platform. Furthermore, with the amount of active users that we currently have, it's unknown how long the person in need may have to wait for in order to speak to someone. If we were conversing during the Golden Age of the RSOFs when we had over 30 members of Community Management and over 1,000 active users at a given time, then, maybe, just maybe, something like this would be able to properly function.

All in all, I wholeheartedly believe that there are better places to look for advice than this gaming forum. You also have to account for trolls and those users that will not take this matter seriously. How are you able to determine who's capable of providing professional assistance to those in need? How will you be able to authenticate their status? These are the things that we ought to check for and I don't believe that we are well prepared for that.

The intention of this forum would be for players to submit play and life styles that work for them that help boost their mental health.

It would not be a place for people seeking actual mental health support.

However, I believe there should be permanent links at the top of the forum which directs players to charities that can offer them the right support. Currently there are no obvious links to these outside of Mental Health Awareness weeks. Perhaps these should be more prominent on the website also, in a way where it's similar to how gambling websites now have to make people aware of gambling addiction.

I completely agree with you that these forums are not a place to get support from for many cases. But as I mentioned previously, in some cases all it takes is a conversation with another person or a small lifestyle change. This is where an RSOF subforum would come into its own.

I don't see a need for this. This is a forum for an MMORPG. We already have an Off-Topic board and there are countless third party communities for discussing mental health, so why do we need a dedicated board for this subject? Sorry if I sound blunt but yeah, I really don't see a point. ~
