If you disagree with this thread, do NOT post in it. I have absolutely no time to read the writings of people who are wrong.

It's not in Jagex's best interests to ignore their own social media platforms, the RSOF, in favor of becoming dependent on external ones whose names you already know. The RSOF must be improved significantly, to help improve engagement while decreasing time wasting aspects of using the RSOF

-Dashboard with customizable alerts for posts which are:
--New threads in a specific section
--Replies to threads which you have marked "monitored"
--Replies to your threads
--Posts which quote your posts
--Posts which quote posts which quote your posts
This is mandatory because otherwise you have to continually click through your thread posting history and check the last N pages to manually see if someone replied to you, which is a waste of time

-Forum dashboard game integration
--Send a message in chat to the player under a separate "forums" section telling them what kind of dashboard alert they got, with a clickable hyperlink to take you to that content
--Ability to link forum threads by quick-find-code within game chat, also clickable hyperlinks
This is mandatory to drive user engagement and ease of use
---Requires a thread menu integrated into the game to auto-generate QFC in chat, not manually type the numbers which is error-prone

-Static HTML only mode
This is a mandatory architectural improvement to make sure the RSOF is well designed enough internally to enable such a feature, and to run on low power or low tech devices

-Slim mode to hide wasted space on the sides of the website
Self explanatory

This list will be expanded.

-Make logins propagate among all opened tabs -Mel 624
-Remove login screen redirections, leave us logged in longer, someone coming onto our computer and posting on the forums is NOT a security issue since the "Account status" page has an extra login prompt anyway -Mel 624

-JMods need to interact with the RSOF

You, me, and I know there are plenty of others who would love to see the Official Forums get some love and brought to some level of modernization and Jagex utilization prominence.

I get why Discord is preferred for instant communication because it can be used as... well, basically like a giant friends chat channel. Horrible for longer-term discussions though, especially if you see something you want to comment on but what was said happened 20 minutes ago and the topic has changed eleventy-seven times since then.

As for the other platforms being used... yeah, there is moderation there but it also feels like the community enjoys not having to be under the thumb of Jagex which is accomplished by making Jagex come to them off the home turf. Sometimes you can get away with more off site than you can here and that's a plus for some people. It's not my cup of tea, but I get it.

Jagex has significantly relaxed the Forum Code of Conduct from what it was 10-15 years ago, so it's not as prohibitive as it used to be and there is always a time and a place for certain discussions - always will be.

I realize you didn't mention anything about what I've said in your opening post, but I bring it up because there is more Jagex interaction off-site than on it. I won't mention names, but I see JMods (likely on their personal time, which is fine) respond to so much on Twitter (for example) while their forum engagement is anywhere between minimal to non-existent. I'm not saying this is all JMods nor am I attempting to attack or call out staff, I'm just sharing my personal opinion based on my own observations.

In addition to the features you've proposed here and those that have been proposed over the years in this very forum, some level of Jagex engagement needs to return as well for the forums to succeed. We're in a Catch-22: the community itself won't utilize this platform if they feel like Jagex isn't here and Jagex won't utilize this platform if they feel the community isn't here.

First off, ppl are allowed to post in any thread as long as they follow the rules. No one can say otherwise.

Secondly, i do agree that there should be some sort of notifications as one of my anime sites has it and its really helpful.

Having some sort of indicator to tell when someones replied to your posts would make the forums that much better.
