I posted a thread looking to buy nature runes, in 2005.
It was in the wrong section, and promptly locked by a Forum Moderator.
I am now great friends with said mod!

lol Jones. Same here.
I see a pattern developing here
One of my earliest forum memories is having a thread locked.
The FMod who locked it knew me in game and took the time to explain the reason, and we've been good friends ever since.
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
My older brother started using the forums before I did, but only the Marketplace and Clan Forums. I don't remember much about when I started... I looked around a bit, started to make some friends, got a 24 hour bans or two, made my own threads...
"What hooked you, what made you a regular forumer? What was your best moment on the Forums?"
I guess it was just the community and friends I made that I stuck around for. I mean... with old, brown, extremely outdated forums with no features whatsoever... why did people stick around?
I had a lot of great times in Forum Games - the "games" themselves aren't particularly fun for the most part, but the community is. FGames mixed with the signature/ASCII artist community made for a pretty active, close group of people.
Of course the forums are pretty dead overall compared to back then
I can join the trend of experiencing a locked thread.
One of the first threads I authored was in Suggestions - 'Killing Unicorns are Evil'.
My argument was because every Fantasy novel and movie treated killing gentle, magical unicorns as an evil unforgivable act; we should be able obtain unicorn horns for potion making in a more humane way. Y'all remember Harry Potter and Voldemort, doncha?
For a first thread, it got a bit of interest - lasted maybe a week and had pages of responses. Some asking me if I knew it was all pretend, lol. Eventually it got locked - FMod said it wasn't a 'serious' suggestion. Srsly, I still feel bad every time I kill a beautiful unicorn!!
So I guess we can all recover from a lock; it goes to show a mistake doesn't get held against us in the long run.
My first experiences were reading and getting help for quests. Later, I liked helping others in Account Help; and finding and hosting Events in that forum.
