My first forum interaction where huge suggestions, in the end I stopped writing them as the chance for a major suggestion to be implemented is just very, very small(Even though one of my suggestions inspired barbarian assault! :D ).

There also used to be a lot of trolls, I am glad that the moderator team got rid of most of them(Great job fmods ;) )

My first forum interaction was when wilderness and free trade were making their return.
J-mods created a thread collecting feedback and reactions, and I made my first post on that thread. On it, I asked them to return the wilderness to its former size; This was some time between December 2010 and January 2011.

That moment was hilarious because I thought that a vast 40-60% wilderness was originally removed. It was only after someone else on the thread replied to me that I realized the wildy probably never shrank in size. Rather, it just had some key places replaced by Bounty Hunter or Clan Wars.

... Lol. I never posted again, until two years had past or so.

Late 2012, I started posting on the forums because I wanted to stop players from giving — what seemed to me — extremely cynical accusations and unfairly vilification of the staff and developers. That was my motive, despite having noticed that JaGEx started adopting marketing and business tactics that I felt were dishonest, unfair and unethical. Back then, promotions, game cards, and microtransactions were just slowly rolling in.

Was I naive or what :P ?
Of course, things have changed since — as have my knowledge, understanding, and perceptions of the game, its company, and its staff, developers, and people. Turns out that years of university enrolled in biomedical science and exploration of many diverse fields of expertise allowed me to realize not only how complex the real world is, but also corrected my personal views in many ways.

Anyways, I should probably stop, since I'm typing way more than I originally intended.
Thanks for reading (if anyone), and thank you 5-x for this friendly, welcoming thread for both old and new users alike :) ;

First time... Wowee! :P

The best I can recall was shortly after the release of the Construction skill. I decided to make some thread advertising my ability to craft items for players. It didn't quite take off, but I did make a good bit of gold for a time.

What was the first thing about the Forums that you noticed?
The simplicity of them way back when. The community was friendly and helpful, easy navigation. No idea now, only just got back after a hiatus.

Additional questions for more experienced Forums visitors: What hooked you, what made you a regular forumer? What was your best moment on the Forums?

I enjoy posting, simply as that, my best moment is probably more of a funny one, I was up all night on the tech help a few years back, there was a thread in general about botting, the reply I posted got me a forum ban, from what I remember, it was a discussion on the morality of botting, but eh. Was fun times back then, hope to get back into it :) (forums that is....) :p

The RuneScape forums were in fact the very first online forums I had ever been to so it was a new experience being in a public place where you could talk to other players.

My forum experience came to a fairly rocky start. 2005. I was a noob getting very frustrated with having to cross White Wolf Mountain and nearly dying all the time so then I discovered the forums, thus leading to my very first post. In the suggestions forum, I asked for Jagex to put a tunnel underneath White Wolf Mountain not realizing there already was one. I was met with a lot of troll responses. Even so, I was not discouraged. If anything, I got motivated to find this oh so mysterious tunnel.

After that, I started to hang out in the General (I in fact remember when there were only 25 pages), Off-Topic and Forum Games forums so that I could get to know the community better. I even returned to the Suggestions forums a couple times to come up with my own quests.

I recall the first quest I suggested involved some sort of elemental titans that created the world. People were telling me that "Sorry, the lore is wrong. It was Guthix who created the world and Saradomin stole the credit." (That was long before all the Sixth Age stuff.) Funnily, the stuff I wrote bore a striking resemblance to the Elder Gods and the TokHaar, so perhaps it's wishful thinking that Jagex got some inspiration. In the end though, this continued to motivate me to do more quests and dive deeper into the lore. In a way, my experiences on the forums were the driving motivation for me to get the quest cape.

2010 and 2011 was my real high point in the forums when I began to spend most of my time in the Future Updates forum. My fondest memories were speculating about the strange power and the Wilderness Castle. So much fun.

It was in the summer of 2005. I was fishing and bored. I was clicking on random links. I found the forums and logged on. I somehow made it to suggestions and made a thread about horses or some rubbish. Promptly locked by the resident moderator.

Went through a terrible WBM phase which consisted of copying and pasting the contents of the 'Do Not Suggest' sticky on every offending thread I could find. Eventually, I was rescued from this sorry state by the combined efforts of both a forum moderator and player moderator that were regulars in Suggestions at the time. They were my mentors.

I found my way to the Compliments Forum and contributed greatly to and eventually received ownership of the 'Forum Mod Responses' thread - which was a HUGE deal at the time. It was seen as acceptance of being an important and influential forum participant. Every person who had owned the thread became either a player or forum moderator.

My other home was the original Rants Forum (2005-07). While I wasn't the best ranter in its heyday, I was definitely well known in that forum for various threads and roles. I dabbled in Suggestions and a couple other forums as well. My main contribution was killing the original Rants Forum, which is something looking back that I am not proud of. The original Forum Feedback forum was the creme de la creme of the forums and I was integral in that very small community.

I've been posting on various accounts ever since, having racked up quite the record of being vocal against Jagex policy - especially since the wild/free trade return and the advent of micro-transactions. At that point, I was mostly active in Recents and the General Forums as those had the people. At other points I retreated to my work with the penguin groups, living out a very quiet retirement.

I don't even know why I am posting this. I doubt anyone even knows me at this point. I guess seeing Monkey Powr (a very old friend) post has compelled me to do the same.

I just recently started using forums. To my surprise, it has much more content than I could of imagined. I also have started because I have of course wanted to make a push to be a player moderator. I truly enjoy the game of Runescape and want to figure out how to help the community. My main question is what is a good forum to start out in learning how everything works. I want to learn more about the game and be more socially involved. Any tips for myself would be wonderful.
