I was first introduced to Runescape via my brother. He had been playing for a short while and I decided to start playing too. Since he had been playing longer than I and had a much better grasp of the game, he was far more advanced on his account as I was and eventually got membership. I'm not entirely sure how he came across the forums, but the first time I heard of it was when my brother showed me an ASCII logo someone had made on the forums for him, which he planned to use in a school project.

Now it would still be a long time before I gained membership, but I loved all things involved with art, so I devoured every page of the Bored? Draw #ere! thread, despite not being able to post on the forums myself (this was before a total level of 350 allowed you to post without membership). That eventually led me to exploring the other threads on Forum Games, as well as Off Topic and Stories.

As soon as I gained membership I let myself loose onto the forums to try learn the art of ASCII. :P

My first forum experiences were probably about 8 or possibly 9 years ago, when I was a nonmember. Back then no nonmembers were allowed to post, but that did not hold me back from browsing anyway. I was quite smitten with Runescape at the time, and had experienced about as much as the nonmember servers could provide - the forums therefore greatly appealed to me because they allowed me to experience another aspect of the game (and it gave me pleasant tastes of the mysterious, glorious members content of which I dreamed of experiencing). Furthermore, I was very impressed with the high quality of the threads and conversations that could be found here. =)

Additionally, that was back before the grand exchange existed. Not only did we have to trade with each other directly back then, but there was the big issue of being able to decide on a price for the items we wanted to buy/wanted to sell. To address this problem, there was a big (player-made and player-maintained!!!) thread stickied at the top of the Items Discussion forum, which contained a list of every tradeable item in the game, as well as its accepted market price. It was amazing. I referred to it pretty much any time I made a purchase, and the prices it contained were all accurate. I would imagine this was a big factor in drawing lots of us to the forums, back then.

I started playing the game in September 2006, but didn't start using the forums until early 2007. I remember browsing the guides section and came across a famous fishing guide back in the day. I remember posting on his thread saying how awesome of a guide he had and I eventually added him in game. He was one of the reasons I got my first 99 in fishing and cooking. (He's no longer active. :( )

Then that became quite a journey ever since then. Posting on whatever thread sparked my interest and seeing some familiar faces. Now I don't recognize people because of the name change, but I know a few familiar faces. I was so happy when the forum avatars came out in err... 2009, I think? I immediately changed my profile picture to something neat. :P

I also remember the forum shuffle. Ugh, that was awful! The communities were basically split up and I didn't care about posting much during that forum era. Thankfully that changed. ;)

I created my own goals and achievements thread back in 2010 and it's up til this day (click on my signature). I wanted to achieve 99 slayer at 123 combat. It took me forever because I had school and such. I eventually achieved that goal in 2012 and had a huge party. It was so satisfying. Now I just keep the thread up for nostalgic purposes and I'm currently in the process of revising it to make it into my overall goals that I have planned for the future.

But that's basically my forum experience. Still here today and loving it. :)

Ah, my first experience was most likely the Trade section, back in 2004 (first account).
After all, without the GE it was Forums or Varrock/Fally w2. And for certain things I simply used the Forums.
I don't think I ever used other section back in that time, it took a few years (including a break or two from RS) till I discovered the suggestion forum, and eventually some other sections.

A few breaks and years later I recently re-discovered the Forums.

And there still are some sections of the Forums which I've never posted in (Games for example).

Probably started in rants after a bad update, then rants was removed so i posted flame elsewhere and shortly after got my main accounts permanently banned from forums.

I was only small, naive, simple minded and immature. How things have changed and how much regret i do have for having that account banned :'c

Not a positive start to forums for me! Glad many of you have positive ones

I saw the link to the forums on the homepage after a few months of playing the game .. the forums opened up another world to me. The first thing I did was arrange a trade. This was before the G.E and the marketplace forums were very busy.

I ended up spending years on the forums due to the various groups of people .. the clans, the player made businesses, and many more ..

Bothers me what has happened to the forums .. not many people here at all.
