I would support a user block function that auto-obscures certain individuals' posts on the forums, so that you can easily ignore them when they post on your threads, or in threads you want to post in.

But it must not prevent people from posting on threads. If it is set up this way, people will abuse it to bully people whom they dislike.

This is true. People would block all FMods for sure.
I disagree, I would face anyone and wouldn't use such a feature as it has no purpose. If you wanna be blind for your opponent then why should people listen to you as you refuse to be a representative but more or less a coloured clown.

I need a block feature for use on the forums to restrict up to 3 people/users from viewing any of my posts, or a privacy feature of some sort. I'm really sick of trolls spamming other people's threads with nothing of substance to contribute.

On the whole, I don't mind the community feedback -- but this sh!t they do is quite literally borderline harassment.
I did face this issue many times in the past but that didn't say any of those opposers were trolls but mere fanatics same as me. However as long as The RuneScape Community isn't damaged nor The RSOF these situations will remain and are of no harm. It only shows that there are enough passionate around worthy to be challenged one way or the other.
I think the word "troll" is widely overused ... and spamming ... yeah Jagex also is spamming The RSOF in extremes by not responding. ;)

I disagree, Lnk. There's a few asshats out there that I'd be very happy to never see their posts ever again due to most of their posts being trash or deliberate bait to another poster. The only thing they are 'passionate' about is being a nasty bastard.

Actually I've just seen the birth of another fledgling troll. Fortunately a JMod on FMR recently upheld a complaint against this individual being deliberately provocative (even though an FMod thought is was quite OK) ... so FMR does actually work, at times.

However, it would be so much simpler to have a 'Block User View' button of the type people have already described. Then people would not have to read snide remarks, provocation, harassment across multiple threads ... the forums would be a much more positive experience for those who do not indulge in venting their inadequate nature on others.

So, in essence, I support the OP's proposal.

There's a catch ... if you block yourself from interacting with a certain player it doesn't prevent others from interacting with that certain player so one way or the other you you always will be confronted with discussions that certain (blocked) player is having with other members of The RuneScape Community or Jagex.
As long as Jagex is is ok with it you have little to nothing at your disposal to do something about it.

Ohhh, I dunno. I think it could be pretty effective. When someone is inherently nasty and toxic they have a tendency to be like that with pretty much everyone. If everyone had the block facility then practically all of them would employ it against the particularly crappy person and thus almost no engagements would occur. I wouldn't have to read second-hand interaction because there'd be none.

Everyone would be relieved of having to read trash from that individual. More or less.
A very effective way to starve a troll :)

But hey - idek why we go on discussing these things. These tools for the forums. Jagex are obviously not going to implement them or, indeed, do anything at all with the forums. Ever.
We know this.

Had a thought, it might be stupid and I’m sure I’ll get told if it is... But would allowing for some self moderation work?

Basically allow the owner of a thread to ‘hide’ derogatory or flame bait posts from trolls, these posts can still be viewed if clicked on. Like how you have to click on ...
to see what’s underneath.

With like a warning message or something prior to clicking.

If you ask Jagex to "help" hiding derogatory- / flame bait- / troll-posts you, in a way, ask Jagex to to not do anything about it but continue and support it hiding it under the carpet with an option to lift that same carpet and see what's underneath.
Adding a warning message would be even stranger, better not making it viewable for anyone just like FMods & LMods do, and to some extend some JMods. :)

Hide for yourself, sure.

Hide for everybody else, no.
