Well, yes, if I buy the package, at least now I will do so knowing what unwanted 'perks' I'll have to put up with. In a sense you're right that would be making a choice, but it would only be that I'd decided the other benefits of the package outweighed the disadvantage of the sacrifice of privacy for me. Buying with my eyes open however, shouldn't mean that I forgo the right to express what I'd like to see in terms of improvements on the deal, in this case, a toggleable forums badge, though it does of course take away any purchasing power I might otherwise have had to achieve that end as a potential rather than an actual purchaser.
It wasn't initially clear before buying the package whether the forums badge would be toggleable though. At least it wasn't clear in any of the official information from Jagex that I had read about in advance. That only became apparent as people bought it, found out themselves, and told others. Personally I find it strange that premier members are permitted to preserve their privacy in game with a toggleable chat badge, and yet not granted the same privacy on the forums. But hey, life doesn't always make sense, huh?
Another thought regarding privacy, even if someone chooses not to buy premier, the fact that the badges are untoggleable still affects their privacy too. Not in such a significant way perhaps, but alongside some players who would not wish it to be known that they've purchased premier, might there not also be some who don't necessarily want to shout that they've bought an 'inferior' package?
