PIN Code for the Site - PIN Codes

Author:
Lucine Sweet
Summary:
An optional ability to add a PIN to your account to protect your website logins. JAG doesn't currently protect these. This would cover account settings, billing pages and the forums.

Pros
~

Calm Enigma: "The more optional security, the better ^^"

~
Cons
~

Calm Enigma: "This is basically like having a second pass, so imo it should definitely be optional if done, otherwise it would be seen as a hassle for many I think."

Calm Enigma: "Too many passes can also get confusing ^^"

Calm Enigma: "Also, assuming the pass is entered in a similar manner to the PIN, it is likely that if your pass is hacked, your PIN will be hacked as well... [just speculation]"

Would this be something like another (old-style) bank pin? Or do you think the pin should be the auto-generated via the authenticator like game login (and new-style bank pin)?

Improvement to the Search Feature – Grand Exchange

Author:
Sassychassis
Summary:
“For example, it was formerly possible to enter the search terms "ore, bar, coal, nature" and receive back a list of all
the RS items which matched any
of those search terms.” Rather than it being the identical item needing to be searched, the ability to search for items more generically.

~
Pros
~

Sassychassis: Allows for easy comparison of prices, especially when superheating or other skills which require the knowledge of prices for multiple items.

Sassychassis: Simplifies a complex system.

Need for Perfection in Spelling – Grand Exchange

Author:
Sassychassis
Summary:
Reduce the need for perfection in spelling in the Grand Exchange.

~
Pros
~

Misty Fuzzy: Easier searching when you aren’t too sure how to spell something or struggle spelling.

Cons

These two go hand in hand in my opinion under the umbrella title: "Grand Exchange Search Improvements". This is something I really want to look into and make it much easier for users to find the items they're looking for. I can't make any promises but know that this is an area I'm interested in improving :) . If there's any other information on how you'd like this to work, post on this thread and I'm sure Misty will add it to the post for me to check.

Obviously the suggestion is Lucine's, so I cannot say or speak for them, but personally, so long as it was secure I think it comes down to the easiest implementation method for Jagex. I disagree with Calm in saying that it should be optional now I look back over it. I understand that account security is down to us but the less hacks the better - I personally think compulsory like the ********. Site accounts are just as important in game.

I think a bank pin style (so long as numbers moved, keyloggers etc) would do fine,as a lot of people don't have authenticator meaning they would be at a disadvantage etc. By having a usual bank pin more people might have access etc.

Summary: compulsory, personal preference - bank pin.

Due to me having a limit on my character count I can't actually quote this, but this is taken from the Grand Exchange suggestions that Mod Shadow commented on found in this post .

Looking at the two it was rather clumsy to put the two as separate suggestions. I will combine them together in just a second to make it easier for you to have the whole suggestion in one place.

It is great to see interest from Jagex for this suggestion and I really appreciate you replying and letting us know there is too! Motivation for even more ideas to increase your workload ;)

Sassychassis,
If you do want to add anything, change anything, comment or what not, as Mod Shadow has said, please don't worry and post away and I will get it added into the post for you. After all, it is your awesome idea that got a spot light ;)

Thanks guys,

Misty Fuzzy

p.s looking forward to you guys posting with some more suggestions soon!

If the 2 options are possible; give both, as not everyone have a smart phone or want to use Authenticator, but my original suggestion consist old-style bank PIN Code.

It would be confusing to have multiple bank PINs for a specific account.

I support a PIN system for logging into the website, but it should link into the existing Authenticator system. There are lots of ways to enable Authenticator without a smartphone; this does not exclude anybody from securing their accounts.

The Authenticator system also has a built-in method for resets/removal. Jagex would need to do more work to build a recovery system for forgotten website PINs.

@Finance

I'm not interested to activate a so called security measure that can be easily deactivated from my E-Mail, when what I have don't allow that, aka JAG.

If you enable two-step verification on your email account, Authenticator is nearly impossible for an intruder to deactivate. JAG is far less secure: the questions can be guessed, and it leaves your account completely unprotected on OSRS and the Companion App.

It makes much more sense to integrate modern security systems into the forums. Bank PINs are the last line of defense, not a primary security method.
