In my opinion, creating a function that allows us to put up voting polls for our threads would be a step in the right direction. This creates many things, but most importantly the ability to allow people to get involved on a thread that they may not have time to input their thoughts or ideas, this could even encourage more people to comment on threads as well!

It gives an important visual side of things other than a theoretical, which is important to have when discussing topics and brainstorming new ideas. More freedom for the players to create a spark for their threads will only benefit the game, especially in the long run by contributing to the overall player experience that RuneScape delivers.

* With this it is important that Jagex inputs a warning stating that Polls might not always be accurate, Flammer's and others may contribute false votes to induce problems* etc. We must stand together and not allow them to dictate what is right or wrong for our RuneScape forums.

You know there is nothing stopping you making a thread or idea thread and adding a Strawpoll to it. It's well within the rules.

You can still get votes even if people don't want to post as long as the selection of answers are good. ;)

Jagex don't need to add this on the Forums as it can be added by players.

Just no bad phishing links or links to bad sites. ;)

I do appreciate the advice, but I'm more progressive on the fact that it is best for the company themselves *Jagex* to implement this feature on their forums. It's more of a professional approach and I believe it is the right thing to do, it also provides confidence to the player base that Jagex, knows what they're doing by creating a fun, encouraging, outgoing environment for the community to experience, rather than to see the players kind of take matters into their own hands.

It's been a very long time since Jagex added a poll to anything to do with RS3.

It's often done on Old School for the Community to vote on adding updates etc.

As for RS3 I can't remember the last poll on the forums to do with anything. Used to have a section on the website for RS3 polls but that again hasn't been used in years.

So I honestly can't see any polls in threads for RS3.

I am ecstatic that Runescape 3 does not follow suit with the voting polls on OSRS for adding new content. I found it very unreliable to create a stable, good, functioning game and if there were problems to occur it would most likely fall on deaf ears, no body would take blame and nothing would get fixed.

I did find it interesting with the polls they used to have on their main website, seeing what Jagex was thinking about and being able to give an opinion on it was nice. At the same time hopefully they did not take those polls to serious.

The voting polls for threads would be implemented for the community to enhance their creativity when it comes to a creating a vibrant more engaging, but not to serious experience here on the forums.

I've seen some members of the web team at Jagex state over the years that they'd love to put work into the forums and make them a better place. A poll-thread feature would be one of many end-user QoL features that the forums could have if time could be allocated to improvement of this platform.

The forums we have today are leaps and bounds above what existed at the start (just ask Tuffty, I think he came pre-installed with version 1 :P ).

As for your specific suggestion, I don't believe you're the first to suggest it and I also wouldn't see anything wrong with having something like this - assuming a lot of the things the forums need come first. Poll-threads are kinda non-essential, right? I mean, they're cool but you can kinda do it already by just letting people pick options and tallying votes yourself into the OP or linking in a straw poll as Tuffty mentioned. So, at the end of the day it's just a little extra fun bit that someone could add to their thread.

Again, nothing wrong with it in my eyes if it were to happen as I have no good or valid reasons as to why it shouldn't be done. In my opinion, this is one of a very long, long list of things the forums are either in need of, could benefit from, or just fun extra features.

unlikely to ever happen, but support

basically having a function like those reddit post polls where you might actually be able to see how many people support or not support an idea thread for example

Considering how many ppl use the forums, i dont think this would give very good results though.

It wouldn't be very good to gauge full-community support for sure, but it would be no different than if someone created a thread and manually tallied votes by editing the OP or a reserve to gauge support by those who take the time to view the thread and "vote" on it.

There's nothing that says all the poll threads would have to be serious, either. "What's your favorite kind of weather?" "Who's your favorite boss/monster?" "What should I wear to my best friends' wedding?"

Do we need a poll thread feature? Nah, probably not. It wouldn't be too hard to implement though if Jagex decided to do a forum overhaul and wanted to throw some extra features in and I'd support this idea as an "extra" as I mentioned before.
