... bumping action, it is part of the housekeeping process especially in a slower subforum like W&F. Fmods have the universal bump button in our toolset for the longest time for such housekeeping purposes. We push valid threads (for your information good threads only, so I defined your thread as good) up to push down a series of locked threads, so we can have a page 1 that looks presentable ...

Did you ever did encounter something like this and what is your response?

Did you ever hear about the "
universal bump-button
"?

Discussion is open. :)

Forum Moderators have always had the universal bump button available to them. The reason being, and I'm sure you know and have been told before, is that if there is a rule-breaking spree in a given sub-forum, Forum Moderators are able to bump normal threads back to the first page for a continued discussion. Furthermore, it also allows them to slowly move down the threads that were actioned -- let that be a locked, moved or hidden thread. If a rule-breaker creates 10 threads and these are locked, moved or hidden, those normal threads get pushed down and the disruptive threads now take all the space on the first page of a sub-forum.

As soon as the Forum Moderator(s) in question deal with such nonsense, they are then able to bump threads that were there before the rule-breaking spree occurred. This tool is not there for Forum Moderators to bump your thread at their liking. It's there for housekeeping purposes and it has always been available to them to be utilized in these circumstances. Throughout my tenure here on the Forums, I have never seen anyone complain on the fact that a Forum Moderator bumped their thread because other rule-breaking threads pushed theirs down.

In fact, it actually helps you if you are unable to bump your own thread at that specific time due to the fact that the universal bump ability that Forum Moderators possess is not bound by the limit that regular users have. It's logical why they wouldn't be bound to this limit as this would allow them to mass-bump normal thread back to the first page after a regular housekeeping.

All in all, it's a very handy tool at their disposal to make sure that OUR threads are kept intact after someone else has come to the Forums to disrupt the peace. Forum Moderators are actually doing us a favor by bumping those threads back to their normal location prior to a spree that affected good threads. It's a tool that helps YOU keep your thread active for others to join the conversation.

I personally see no issue in FMods bumping threads to the front page (if they're active/recent). I'd personally rather not see x amount of locked threads, or hidden threads on the first or second pages, because then, I start to get curious on why they get hidden, and what kind of content was there to make them get hidden, etc...

If I can just look at clean, open & active threads on the first 1-2 pages, then I'm happy. I highly doubt many, if anyone at all, looks past page 2 on these forums now. ;)

And yes, two of my old friends who were FMods, used to bump threads for me when I was not online, so I knew they could bump and with no time limit. :P

I agree with this. If the bump button is being used for housekeeping purposes to push locked/hidden threads off the first page, I have no issue with that.

This I have an issue with. FMods shouldn't be using the bump feature to bypass the normal bumping limit to bump up their own threads or bump up threads for others. It should be used for housekeeping only, otherwise it's being used for personal gain for themselves or their friends.
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

I've known about this bump function for, like, forever really.

I don't have a problem with it at all when Mods are housekeeping and pushing a bunch of locked or hidden threads off of page 1 and restoring the threads that were originally on that page.

I had no idea that Mods would be performing favours for a friend by keeping said friend's threads bumped into prominence. That I do have a problem with.

No problem with fmods bumping threads whether friends or housekeeping

for friends if we were to get all indignant then they could just post bump or a simple .
