I would be for this only in suggestion/feedback forums where it can be useful to gauge interest, similar to the way RuneLabs used to work. A simple 'support' button would suffice. For the rest of the forums? No use bringing one of Reddit's most problematic features here.

Considering thats one of the reasons ppl dislike rl, dont see why that should be used for the forums?

It is only a problematic feature if the people implementing it don't do anything to make it better. If they seriously cannot be creative in their design, or tell who is misusing it, then its their fault for designing it so poorly.

How about you guys suggest something for them to work with instead of just turning every suggestion into hate crimes of abuse.

A "like" button is fine if it will reduce posts such as "this^." and "+1".
Actually, that's a good point. I'm fine with a like button system, but I don't think there's a need for a dislike. If you don't like it, then don't click like - make a post and keep the discussion going. Meh, I think if you do like someones' idea, it would be worth while to make a post to keep the discussion going just as well.

The reason I don't support a dislike system is because it would inevitably be used to alienate users by flagging their posts as disliked. Having a dislike usually leads to some arbitrary point system to compare liked to disliked which is completely unnecessary.

I agree. The problem with dislike systems and downvoting or whatever has become very apparent lately on r/runescape and it's disgusting. I don't think people should need to come to the forums and pull the same shit.

Likes alone I could live with, but am not particularly interested in and slightly oppose. The nice thing about the forums is that it weights posts/threads equally, not based on popularity, which means that unpopular opinions don't get pushed out of sight.

The risk with this is that it opens up the "this post has x likes, it must be great!" mentality, which falls apart when the most popular opinion isn't necessarily the correct one. Reddit's default sort bothers me for that reason...

I personally see benefits to the down voting as well. It would help to show the list of people disagreeing with users instead of said users posts. A person like me who gets plenty of negative feedback because of my beliefs, would be able to see if more people actually dislike my posts and just choose not to comment, instead of just disliking everything I say like a certain feathery individual.

Sure, some might actually just hate my concepts, and they can dislike my posts too. But only the people you all worry about abuse from would dislike posts as frequently as you think will happen. Which, even if a group decided to spam an important post of mine to dislike hell with alts, that's fine, might just show desperation on their end instead of actual dislike.
