'I too would be interested in more information / clarification.'

The twitter feeds for the relevent Jmods associated with this update didn't appear to contain anything negative associated with the update posted to Twitter. So no clues posted via Twitter...
Tbh, I was surprised that a restriction of only in-game images was not put in place for this update since the majority of images posted that I have seen are not game related & do appear to be 'copyrighted or trademarked' images.
Although most people see nothing wrong with using copyrighted or trademarked images & do so without hesitation in a public forum the burden of removal via take down notices would fall on the hosting venue (Jagex) rather than the person who posted it (CoC).
However, the 'burden' would be no different or 'heavier' than the other public forums that Jagex hosts for its products. So I wouldn't think this would be the reason as to why the update would be removed.

I thought it was obvious Mod Lyon was joking around.
Yes. Can't believe I had to clarify that to be honest, expand the image.
For the record regarding copyright, none of the images are hosted by Jagex. The burden would rely on the hosting company, Imgur. Any user can request that Imgur remove an image by visiting their website, specifically
here
.

I'd be interested to hear why in the past mods have cited copyright issues as a reason for not allowing them despite circumstances being the same then as they are now?

Because those mods were speaking on the assumption we would host the images ourselves. If someone contacted us and legitimately requested / demanded we remove an image, we likely would however ultimately the burden as I say lies with Imgur, as they are hosting the image.

Not that I'm that bothered one way or the other. Just curious.
Considering how adamant you were Stoat about our updating the forums, I would have hoped you would have found this rather large impact update to be considerably more beneficial than it seems you do. A shame, really.

Was the 'images update' just a temporary update that was testing the waters so to speak? The opening post did not seem to imply that it was.
It is interesting that only after six days into this update it appears that you are communicating that the decision to remove it has been made. Is it possible to clarify further as to why the removal of images is now necessary?
when they don't get the joke...

No, it wasn't obvious, hence the reason I asked.

Not sure why you can't believe you were asked to clarify since it appears that I was not the 'only' one who was wondering...
I did expand the image & this may be an good example that not everyone shares the same sense of humor & why written content is > than an image, especially on gold...

The way copyright laws work it is doubtful that notion would 'exempt' this site from receiving a take down notice too.
As note in my post (33.2), I did mention, 'However, the 'burden' would be no different or 'heavier' than the other public forums that Jagex hosts for its products. So I wouldn't think this would be the reason as to why the update would be removed.'
To clarify my stance, I have no issues with images being allowed as long as they conform to the rules. I have enjoyed looking at some of the in-game images users have posted. I especially look forward to seeing images being posted to Wilfs' Bird Watching thread.

An image taken down on Imgur would result in it no longer displaying on the forums. The image in no way touches the website other than its unique alphanumeric ID, it's straight from Imgur to the user.
That is to say, sending a take-down notice to Jagex would be entirely pointless if you've already had one sent to Imgur. (And honestly, Imgur would likely respond faster
)
If it broke the forum's rules though, our fmods would be the first to act.

As mentioned previously, '

What may seem like an exercise that would be
entirely pointless to you
may not hold true for those companies & individuals that have copyright material. Establishment of a paper trail is key (just ask Jagex Legal) no matter how pointless it may seem to you.
Lol, even though I haven't posted to RSOF in awhile, I am very much aware that the fmods will act to hide images just like they do to written content that does not conform to the rules. An example would be qfc 23-24-335-65799942, 10.5.
