Often I have seen users making baiting and provocative comments like:

"I am ignoring you" for whatever excuses.

"Blah blah blah" and a 9,000 word wall of text and then say I am leaving this thread and won't respond to your <fill in your any kind of forum rule breaking>.

Can anybody, preferably CM and Fmods please advise why these kinds of comments not considered baiting?

To me, they seem like (1) comments directed at forum user(s) and thus violation of the Code of Conduct of Good Forumers, (2) quitting a thread or forum is not relevant and not constructive feedback to the thread therefore thread derailment, (3) telling other user about derailment is itself a derailment.

Please advise am I correct, and if so, should comments like this be considered baiting and reported and actioned in the forums? Otherwise, please advise tell us why not and what's the proper action to respond to such baiting/provocations?

Hi Dilbert

If you do not wish to engage with a post on a thread, you merely ignore it.

Mind you, the entire point of such posts is to prompt a response from you. As such, if you do not provide one, the excitement disappears accordingly. Of course, should the player(s) in question continue to submit meaningless posts without any substance, a small nudge would likely be appropriate. You need and should not do this yourself, however. Instead, please refer to Forum Help. If the behaviour continues, the player(s) in question are fast approaching what indeed would be considered disruptive behaviour, and action should be taken.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reply here.

If not, I am not sure this question really warrants a thread like this.

Thanks!

Maybe this helps ...

If you consider text being
bait/provocative
then it might be best to take your hands off of your keyboard and mouse to leave that place to rest, '
take some time off to reconsider purpose and effect

(1) Please elaborate what is considered baiting. I completely believe the constructive discussion of having a common understanding and consistency of forum enforcement regarding this topic (which is outlawed by the FH rule) is instrumental to the harmony of the RSOF community.

(2) Based on your comment, it seems like you think (not sure if the CM and other Jmods share the same opinion though) it is OK for anybody to slam/bait a targeted user, and the targeted user can only ignore and take the punch.. Even if so, please explain what constructive discussion are comments like "you are ignored... I am leaving this thread please do not reply"?

To YOU they seem that way, to others they evidently do not.

And since you have NOT been so advised, I don't see why you're trying to argue with the volunteer moderators about it.

Again, I am not arguing. I am just gathering opinions (from non-mods) and the actual ways how they interpret and enforce rules against BAITING so we all, including me, will do the same thing in the RSOF going forward.

If the Jmods/CM say we are allowed to do what I mentioned, very well, I'll do exactly the same.

Telling someone you do not want their replies is the opposite of baiting.

IF someone ever said that to me I would certainly wonder if my behavior was to blame and I would work to correct that perception in the future.

What I would never do is threaten to behave in a manner I find objectionable just because I can.
