Ignore on a forum never works because someone will always be quoting the person you blocked.

It leads to spam as the ignore list users complain about any word that manages to escape from their target, having been quoted or discussed by other users.

You can't always block the quote messages either, because someone like me will just grab a sentence and put quotation marks on it, without ever naming the other poster.

Exactly.

Plus it would also lead to confusion as the person whos doing the ignoring would only get 1 side of the conversation.

So its best to keep things as is so no ones out of the loop.

@Draco Burnz the IP ban was only mentioned as something other places do to punish sockpuppeting and ban dodging. It's up to Jagex to decide if that's how they deal with that behaviour but the actual point was that creating and using multiple accounts in order to get around rules of conduct and the consequences of their actions isn't something that should be tolerated. This was in response to describing the ability for people to do such things as an excuse not to allow blocking and the problems with that reasoning.

It's not about replying to them, it's about the inability to hide them from view so people don't get antagonized and baited on threads they're trying to interact with. That's still an issue even if you avoid responding as it can only be dealt with if the posts don't have to be seen all the time. And again with the victim-blaming rhetoric dismissing how baiting works. If a post is seen repeatedly then someone trying to ignore it has to refrain from replying every single time. If the post contains something upsetting, there's a lot of pre-existing baggage with the poster, it's an inflammatory topic, etc, that's a lot to expect from someone while also denying them tools to make it easier.

We've been over that excuse with how anything that involves expecting the affected player to ignore the post/poster brings us back to how it should be made more feasible to expect people to follow through on that. That's some pretty circular reasoning.

@Roddy Piper

Due to the character limit not everyone does and the quote boxes are formatted differently with smaller names and no portrait. People can only quote posts that take less space than they need for their reply. Quotes could also potentially be reworked to be something you click to open, which would help shorten forum posts and bring attention to whatever new is being said by the person quoting. Likewise, some forum blocks actually let you click to show the hidden post. Doesn't make it pointless.

Again, that's not necessary.

Other forums have functionality that lets you ignore posts but not quotes, and it's really not an issue. It's not like you'll die if you accidentally glimpse the name of a blocked user.

^Yea just like ppl wont die from scrolling past someone they dont get along with.

Just because other sites do something doesnt mean this one needs to have that "feature" as well.

I mean with that logic we should have a radio like RuneZone did.

Seeing names and seeing every single post attached to it is not the same thing. Especially when posts get long. It does make a difference no matter how often you insist otherwise.

By the same logic you're using, nothing should be updated ever. When people are pointing out other forums and chat text based sites have a block/ignore feature, they aren't arguing that anything elsewhere has to be included, they're pointing out that it's a common QoL feature that's helpful and functional in response to claims that it isn't.
