This thread be old.
I've also found the key to keeping yourself motivated, set no goal, just go there with the aim to do your utter best, like you should with anything.

That's great advice :) and if you do set goals don't make them too difficult, start with something managable and if you can manage it, then either stick to it or slightly increase the goals as you get more used to it, or if you can't manage your goal set a smaller goal instead, or just go to do your best :D .

Oh one more tip, try rewarding yourself every time you make progress in the gym, can motivate you to keep going :D , like some time on Rs, a movie or a meal out nice little treats like this can go a long way

so what does everyone who goes to the gym do? I mostly do legs, abs and chest/arms . (generally I do a set of 200 abs, 200 leg and 200 arm/chest exercises on days i go, which is on average every week day (monday to friday) ), been getting quite good at the pull up bar (where you grab the bar which is normally high up, and pull yourself up), actually managed to pull my chest a fair bit above where my hands are grabbing the bar (so in others words I can pull myself quite high :D ), exhausting though! 200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

When I used to work out I would have a bit of a gym set up at home but I would still pay for gym membership to try and ensure I didn't get lazy. It was a theory that worked for me and others I know.

I don't work out these days but I have always worked in the construction business which involves a lot of manual exercise anyway.

I guess if I worked in an office or something it would be more important to work out in a gym for personal fitness.

Yeah having some things at home is useful, at our house there are some weights, used to have rowing machine, abs machine and an exercise bike. 200m Dunge, Rc, Mage and invention accomplished, + 120 Constitution/Slayer/Range/Summoning/Woodcutting/Mining/Defence/Strength and 110m fishing, got comp/MQC and 200m Fishing/Woodcutting/Mining as well as 120 herb/Farming/Cooking most 120s just Agility, Theiving, Hunter and Prayer left

For anyone who frequents the gym, how do you keep yourself motivated to keep going down?

I used to go 3-4 times a week and did this continuously for a good 5 months but since going away on holiday and now it's getting dark and cold I find myself preferring to curl up with a blanket and stay indoors gaming instead. So would be interested to see if people have any clever tactics for making themselves go back :P

One thing is to accept the fact you're not always going to be motivated and do it anyway. It's unrealistic to think you always will be. Do it whether you feel like it or not.
That being said, if you're constantly miserable and find yourself taking longer and longer breaks then just might not be for you. Lifting isn't for everybody.
For me if I stop for a week (as I do every 6 weeks for break) I find myself itching to go back. If you don't get that then try to find another way of keeping in shape.
