I don't go to the gym, but I tend to run when afking a skill.

The main reason why I do it to keep me motivated is that it's really helpful for stopping my anxiety, neuroapthy, and my ADHD from getting out of hand. Even though I use medications for  the ADHD, neuroapthy, and anxiety I have found that them alone does not cut it. So I took up running.

So far after a year it's done a lot to help. However I do find myself to have those 'down' times when I can't be bothered to do my workout and I feel like I begin to degrade, and thats when I force myself to get back to it.

As Wey said its best to have some kind of long-term goal in mind, such as for a specific sport rather than just going with no real goal in mind. If you don't have a goal to achieve and work towards then you are likely to get bored. When it comes to motivation...that is intrinsic and in the end you just need to find what works for you, think about what you want to achieve and develop a plan to get there!

Long term goals make sense. I started back in Feb when I knew I would be going on holiday in the summer so wanted to slim up, build muscle and possibly develop the abs. As soon as I came back from holiday I lost that focus though :p

Gym in the morning is an interesting idea, although knowing what I'm like with early starts I'm not sure how dedicated I would be. Empty gym is an excellent feeling though (mid Saturday afternoon is usually empty and I love it). Might have a look at trying a few earlier starts to do this - the gym is actually on the way to my work so it wouldn't be too far out of the way.

Thanks all :)

Don't try to impress others just do it for yourself.
This, just don't become a narcissist please.

If there is a lack of motivation rely on the fact you can force yourself to know what's good and do it, eventually the motivation comes back.

Also if you're not motivated to go to the gym at 8:30 pm do some morning and evening exercises, 15 mins a day, to stay in shape

As someone who goes with the main goal of building muscle, my advice is, think of the benefit it will bring, whether that is building a certian muscle, feeling fitter, losing weight if it's what you want.

Also, if it's muscle you are after building, this is helped greatly by including some protein and carbohydrates in your diet, very helpful ^_^ protein helps build muscle and carbohydrates will give you energy to keep doing those work outs.

doesn't have to be every day or a lot but sometimes , I'd personally recommend at least 2 times a week for both protien and carbs, but see what works for you :)

1-2 times a week I take a protein shake after my workout, these are also helpful.

If anything, it actually helps a lot to wake up like 2 hours earlier than normal and have the extra 2 hours spent going to gym, working out, going back home and get ready for the day.

Yeah gotta get up at 3 am, so i better get up at 1 am.. nah.

I prefer to do sports directly after work and then get home and turn on Rs.

Motivating yourself to do something is probably one of the hardest things you have to do in life, especially when it comes to things like this, which require effort - because, you know, lazyness overtakes your mind and makes you do other things, which are easier to do, i.e. playing RS.

However, everyone who has access to the HLF at one point was self-motivated enough to login on RS and achieve the goals they set for themselves, just so one day, they could wear a Max/Completionist cape. These capes can take some people years upon years to obtain, but in the end, to some extent, it's worth it because of self pride and a sense of accomplishment. When you finally go and buy the capes, you feel happy because all of your hard work has finally paid off.

When contemplating where to go to the gym or not, look at it as if it was a game, which to be honest, life sorta is. It's a game which completes, but not everyone gets a score of 100%. To get that sorta score, you need to do what you want to do in life, do what makes you happy and makes you prosperous. Forget about the world and what it thinks about you, think about yourself and your family. Set yourself a personal goal, whether it's to gain weight/muscle or lose it, just like you did on RS when it came to skills. For example, be like, by December I'll have gained 4 stones of pure muscle or have lost 50 pounds.

At the end of the day, you have to simply remember that nothing worth having in this world will ever be easy to obtain. Your capes weren't, were they? Sure, they weren't technically difficult, but took a while to grind for. That's what you have to do at the gym. It's not difficult to achieve your goals, all it takes is time and patience. If someone else could do it, then so could you. Getting in shape is a lot harder than it is to stay in it. Once you're there, it's a lot easier to maintain yourself. Once you're there, you don't have to worry about losing it for a while, likewise with your capes.

Sure, there will come a time in the future when Jagex will release a new skill or new content, requiring you to complete in order to wear your capes again. Just like that, times will come in your life when you will start putting on weight or losing muscle, but it will be a lot easier to see results again than it initially was because you're already 99% of the way there.

At the end of the day, sitting on your computer contemplating whether to better yourself or not will not make it any easier to do. In order to see results, you have to make sure you go out there and do whatever you can to ensure you succeed. Everyone has to start somewhere in life. We all started as level 3's on RuneScape and now look at where we are. How did we get here? By motivating ourselves and setting goals on a game. So how is real life any different? It's not. Just do what you done on RuneScape in real life and you'll eventually start seeing results.

If you're the kinda person who's looking to lose weight, but are intimated by all the other people at the gym, then just remember, everyone at the gym has a similar goal to yours. They all started somewhere and after some dedication and hard work, they have started making their dream come true and have started meeting their goals. They're at the gym because they want to get fit, just like you. They're not so different. So just pop your headphones on and listen to music while you work out, or take a friend with you and talk to them while working out, whatever works for you. The same thing goes for those who are looking to gain muscle or put on weight.

If your goal is to gain muscle or put on weight, just remember that eating the right types of food in the right quantity is just as important as lifting weights. Without the right protein and food, you will not see any results, even if you go to the gym 6 days a week. Eating 24/7 will do nothing if you're not eating enough calories.

If you're still not liking going to the gym for whatever reason, you can do pretty much everything you can at the gym, at home or even outside, granted that you have access to the equipment and stuff. If you want to lose weight, then there are so many exercises you can do outside of the gym, with and without expensive equipment. For example, you can go for a run/jog for a mile or two every single morning and increase your distance as you start seeing results. You can also buy a skipping rope and use that at home, along with a lot of other things.

Likewise for muscle gainers. Buying a set of weights is not expensive. If you can spend money on RuneScape, on stuff like Bonds, RuneCoins, membership, etc, then you can do so in real life on weights. There are different exercises you can do, some which you can even do while playing RuneScape (though, it's not really advised).

You just have to think about one thing when motivating yourself, which is, how much do you want it? At the end of the day, what you do with your life is up to you. If you're happy with being skinny or fat, then so be it, so long as you're happy. But if you're not happy and you want to see a difference, then make a difference because it certainly won't happen itself if you're on your computer all day long. Like I previously said, nothing is impossible. If one person could do it, then so can you. Of course, for some, it's a lot easier than it is for others, but it's still every bit possible. You can't expect to turn from a guy who has twigs for arms and legs, i.e. Spongebob into Arnold Schwarzenegger in a few weeks; in a few months/years, yes, if you stay true to yourself and don't give up. Taking a break is fine, as long as it's not for too long or you'll start losing what you gained.

To end this off since I have other stuff to do now, all I'm going to say is that dreams will only come true if you make them come true. If you go out there and make something of yourself. Only you have that power.
