A family member had laser/lasik done several years ago. I reckon it was for cataracts, but she also had some vision problems, so I think the doctors advised her that the surgery would correct most of the problems. So. She went for it.

At the time, I don't think most of it was covered with her insurance. And, I am not too sure if this is still true or not, but at the time, in my area, it was a new thing. Certain people met the requirements. It was also considered "cosmetic", therefore the process wasn't completely covered by the insurance.

Anyway, she met the right qualifications for it. They did one eye at a time. It took about 2-3 hours. For one eye. But, before they could even operate on the other eye, she had to go back for a few visits to make sure that the initial eye was perfect. They did basic eye-tests--such as dilation and the letter-test.

And, for a long while, she had to deal with some leakage. It was some thick fluid that leaked from her eye. But, even after the surgery, she still wore glasses. Did nothing for her, I guess.

:( sad to hear that, Froud.

Yeah it's different with cataracts. But "only" near/far sightedness is easier to cure.
I hope medicine will improve hugely by time, the medicine for the eyes are way too bad to what they really should be. Anyone in the world should be able to see perfectly. I want to live in a world where eye diseases don't exist anymore. Just like several viruses died out.

Im -3 and -4.5 short sighted and recently started soft lenses, I had no problems for the first few months but now the pollen count is extremely high I can only wear them a few days a week otherwise I get allergic conjunctivitis-like symptoms. (very large red vein/veins in the corner of both eyes, sometimes spreading to the coloured part, watery eyes, wake up with a little dried discharge in the corners of my eye and slight light sensitivity for the first hour of being awake)

This is because once pollen attaches itself to your eye and your lenses compact it against the eye they get inflamed, I'm trying anti histamine eye drops 4x a day atm and haven't seen much improvement yet.
Is this similar to yours?

yeah symptoms are like yours. And i always have yellow Rheum in my eyes when i wake up. I always had that, but since some months i have way more of it. It's always in the middle left (right eye) or right (left eye) . I just checked wikipedia and google for 30 minutes, it has NO NAME (that place in the eye) . wow.

edit: got it. It's the Caruncula where i always have this yellow Rheum!

I've been wearing glasses for the past 9 or so years now and I didn't try contact lenses until a couple of months ago because I'm not really one for putting things near my eyes (Plus having lazy eyelid muscles doesn't help >.< ). Tried them for a week or so and I really didn't get on with them because they'd feel awful and my eyes would dry up within an hour and make them feel even worse. I also found that my vision with them really didn't match up to what I was expecting.

I'm -3.25 in the left, -3.75 in the right with slight astigmatism. I personally just find glasses much easier to wear, especially during spring/summer months where pollen count is high. I couldn't imagine trying to deal with that while wearing contacts. :P

Without glasses this text becomes blurry at a distance of around 7 inches, unreadable by 9 inches unless squinting. Hope that puts it in perspective for any non short-sighted people. :)
Everybody cares about things that nobody cares about.
