I've done this multiple times in RS, other games, and various websites. I've also seen loads of friends do it.
When I play a game daily for years on end or use a website daily for years on end, it almost always seems to get to a point where doing anything with it starts to feel like stressful work. That's the exact opposite of why I play games or use various sites (I use them as stress-relieving fun), so reaching that point is usually a sign that I need to take a long break from something.
I'd love to give people advance warning, but in most cases that's not an option because most games and sites only let you message one person at a time and/or only let you message people when they're online. The only exception I can think of to that problem is games on Xbox Live because you can do the "message to all friends" thing.
