The first time I burned out in the summer 2012, it was a gradual process. I had been under a lot of pressure IRL and there were a bunch of time constraints with my commitments that made it hard for me to play. As a result, my play tapered down.
The second time I burned out was when I tried to get back into the game in spring 2013. I bought 3 months of membership, played for less than half of that, and then just stopped. Unlike the first time, I had just stopped playing completely without warning.
I feel like people who set lofty RS goals for themselves will just burn out suddenly, especially if playing becomes exhausting. You'll be motivated towards working at a goal and work for it tirelessly until that one day, when you just wake up and everything feels pointless. It happens to people IRL all the time. That's my two cents on this.
