I dated some guy on here for about 3-4 years and told me he was 26 when I was 22... I was ready to hop on a flight to finally meet him, and my mom googled his name!! He turned out to be a 52 year old man,who was married with an 18 year old son....... So, I'll never do that again
W-wait you e-dated someone for 3-4 years, you never googled his name and never had a video chat?
What were you thinking here? Genuine question

Nope, never googled his name. Actually he never told me his last name, until I sent him a package in the mail. I never asked, we were face booking each other daily and exchanged cell numbers...

A long time ago I just found it weird that people had to resort to online dating.
Nowadays I find it less weird and I don't refer to it as "resorting to".

But it's things like this that do make me scared for people doing it. Because I've seen too many people too much in love, too blind, too ignorant, to desperate, or whatever and just dive in the relationship. Which is not always a bad thing. And on the internet there are too many people who take advantage of those people, or are people who are just desperate or miss something in their life , or whatever.
But you have those people in real life as well, of course. And those are even more professional, because this skill existed long before the internet. And with real life assets you can easily lure people in easier, and can do much more harm faster as well.
Don't know where I wanted to go with this.
Anyway, live your life. Live it save. Taking risks is okay. But not always. Try to find that line and not cross it (too much).
What was once considered frowned upon is now (or slowly becoming) perfectly normal, especially with the influence of social media + celebrities (if that's what you want to call them).
Take a look at Jessica Nigri or Estée Lalonde. Jessica met her boyfriend through Instagram, and Estée met hers through...Omegle I believe...
Just be careful of those who appear too good to be true.
