Coming from someone who's extremely socially awkward and has a horrible time expressing myself to people I meet in real life, yeah I've done online dating.
Had quite an amazing relationship with one girl I met at one point (we talked for a week before meeting up). And a couple of others that weren't totally justifiable relationships.
It's weird, sure. It's definitely a little awkward when it comes to telling people how you met... But honestly, I've probably had more meaningful relationships with girls I've met on dating sites than any girl I've met in real life.
Of course it's all a matter of preference and how you feel about the whole thing, but for me at least, it's 100% easier to get to know someone online first, where I don't have to worry about trying to MEET them (and talk to them) in real life and to not be able to get a sentence out.

I don't like the dating
game
and as such I don't like dating sites either.
I much prefer being friends with someone so you get to know them, then the friendship can remain what it is or grow to become love. I'm not really concerned with whether this happens in the real world or online. It's just important to me that a relationship is built on friendship and trust rather than a random booty call you have nothing in comon with besides sexual compatibility.
Meh, good sex is important, else you might as well just be good friends
I dated some guy on here for about 3-4 years and told me he was 26 when I was 22... I was ready to hop on a flight to finally meet him, and my mom googled his name!! He turned out to be a 52 year old man,who was married with an 18 year old son....... So, I'll never do that again

W-wait you e-dated someone for 3-4 years, you never googled his name and never had a video chat?
Nope, never googled his name. Actually he never told me his last name, until I sent him a package in the mail. I never asked, we were face booking each other daily and exchanged cell numbers...
