How much do you sleep? Are you an early bird or a lie-abed?

During the week, i sleep 3-4 hours/night. I have read on some science websites that sleeping less than 6 hours a night changes 700 genes negatively. But i'm a very healthy person and never sick, and i tested my blood in 2013 and had overagely good results. But I slept like 6 hours back then during the week.

On Weekends, I sleep mostly 8 hours, going to bed at 3 am and waking up at 11 am . I don't look at the clock and think "now it's time to go to bed!" when i don't have to get up the next day to do something, it's just this natural feeling of being tired happens to me mostly around 2-3 am.

So during the weekend (Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday) i sleep about 16 hours in total, while Monday to Friday about 20.

How about you? Do you need sleep? Do you have a different sleeping pattern during the week than on weekends? Would you feel gutted if you didn't sleep your perfect X amount of hours sleep per night?

Here is a tiny poll:

I aim for around 7hours.

I'll usually fall asleep between 00:00 and 01:00 as I tend to read/finish watching tv show when I get into bed 23:00-00:00.

I then wake up at 7:15-20 am weekdays.

Lie in on Sat till 10ish if I can

Sunday same usually.

When I don't have to get up I like to sleep but don't like to sleep because I know I could get up and do something.

When I was a layabout student later on in the year when we had no lectures I'd get up in the afternoon if I felt like it :D and stay up late if I wanted to, or if I was late on an assignment stay up all night and not sleep at all.

5-6 hours weekdays, 10 on weekends.

Studies have shown that people who consistently get a poor quality of sleep have reduced brain sizes (and thus reduces cognitive ability) - which is really bad, and can reduce ones lifespan by about 10 years. It's especially bad to get less sleep during ages 1 - 25, when your brain is still developing.

Guilty of this myself, it's difficult to get a good quality sleep due to how busy I am, and screens. Looking at a screen actually makes it more difficult to fall asleep, regardless of how tired you are. The best way to fall asleep the fastest is to eliminate 1 hour of screen time prior to sleeping.

Note that this is only true for the quality of sleep, not the length of sleep. However, the more you sleep the more likely it is that you will experience REM sleep (deep sleep).
