Was wondering if it would be possible to have a button like "J-mods" somewhere (Possibly next to the thread name?) and when you click it, a drop down box appears that says every page with a J-mod post in it and the name of the J-mod.

And if you want to hide it, you just click it again to minimize it.

Not sure if that would be possible?

The crown indicates that a jmod has posted on the thread.

What I'd do is make the crown a link that shows all the jmod's posts in the thread.

There are some limitations with this. To get it to work I'd need RS-Linkify to submit the thread qfc and name of mod to database whenever it stumbled across a jmod post.

This way after you've loaded the page showing thread titles, RS-Linkify could match the qfcs in the database with the numbers in the thread links. Any matches means show a crown and get the name of the mod.

Some problems I need to overcome are, how long do I store this info. I mean not all threads don't last forever and I have no way knowing when a thread dies.

Another issue is what happens if two or more jmods post on a thread.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically it's do-able to a point.

- I'd need to make RS-Linkify users the detection mechanism for jmod posts. That just means when you see a post by jmod, RS-Linkify sees that post too and tells a database the qfc.

- I'd have to put a limit on how long the data is stored.

I believe there enough RS-Linkify users on the forums to make this viable.

Maybe something like 10 or 14 days since the last sight of a J-Mod post would be enough, or maybe 7 days. I'm under the impression it won't need to be too long, since if a thread hasn't been looked at within a time period like this (at least from a RS-Linkify user), then the thread will likely be a good few pages down the line in the forum and won't get many sights anyway.

Could you have a system where it stores a certain amount of J-mod posts? As an example, lets say 50 (I don't know if that's adequate, or how strict the limitation needs to be) and when a new J-mod post is found, the oldest one gets knocked off?

If that older post (that has been knocked off) is rediscovered, it could then be placed back on the queue knocking the next oldest one off?

It might be prudent to exempt certain sub-forums from saving J-mod post data.

@Amaethwr and Faded Myths,

I think a combination of both your ideas would work, and be a good starting point. This isn't going to be an easy one to do. I have lots of things to overcome but it's nice to toss around some ideas.

If I wasn't restricted to working within the browser I could do things so easily, but hey a challenge is always good :)

Is it possible to exclude first posts from being saved? If a thread is created by a J-mod, all you're really interested in is any subsequent posts.

Is it at all possible to sort the ugly shading out to the left of forum posts? I assume it is the background image of the post, which explains why it doesn't occur on this thread or custom coloured posts.

http://puu.sh/4EYcP.jpg

I also assume it'd require applying a new background to every post to be able to fix this? I don't know if that is feasible or not, but there is no harm in posing the suggestion. It is not an important issue, it just doesn't look nice.

I won't actually be saving any posts, the crown will link in the same way as the
Posts
link works. Nothing fancy, I'll just use the mechanism that already exists. This the only data I need is qfc and the name of the mod.

It'll just show all their posts with the show in thread option.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: about that shading, it looks awful but I don't seem to be getting it.

Can you tell me if it's still there with RS-Linkify disabled. That would be a big help.
