Hi there!

If it's not too much trouble, may I have a code for this pic? And a "fun loving" custom title? Thanks so much and I hope you are well :)

No trouble at all :)

Your title might take a few hours to kick in. Linkify checks for new titles every few hours so it just depends when the next check occurs. Hopefully it wont take too long :)

Hmm, my Linkify custom Title is gone :(

And a title on my server is saying "my display name has gone :( "

As Keighlea pointed out, the title isn't gone. It's still there on my server pointing to Ziksy.

I don't keep track of display name changes because there is no 100% reliable way to do it. The little sanity I have left, I want to keep :)

It's only custom titles that relay on display names, so letting me know is all you need to do and I'll take care of it :)

I have replaced the name "Ziksy" with "Alan Ford". So when linkify updates it's titles, you'll be back to normal :)

Hello again Indy ^_^

Not sure if this is possible to do, but might as well try to request it.. ;)

Is there a way to add in our forum profiles a section of 'favourited threads' so they're easier to find/see? :O

If not, don't worry. You're already doing an amazing job on Linkify. :P

Hiya AOROX :)

I have been looking into the profile quite recently. Evil Lucario recently made a suggestion that has inadvertently directed my focus on profile improvements.

There are two things I'd like to do. Favourites and watch list of threads.

Favourites is self explanatory. However it will need to be maintained by the user. Meaning threads that no longer exist will have to be manually removed. There may be a limit as to how many threads can be bookmarked, but it will be no less than what the current profile can handle, might even be more than that.

The watch list would be limited to a few threads (maybe 3 or 5 max). Within the watch list you can see if new posts (and perhaps how many new posts) have been made on the watched threads, see the position of the thread (example: thread is on page 50). And it will remember the last page of the thread you viewed allowing you to land on the page where you left off.

What I'd like to do is make the the profile page tabbed. Current profile tab, Bookmarks tab, watch list tab. This keeps everything tidy and not cluttered and means the original profile remains pretty much as is.

I've hit a few stumbling blocks but with a bit of creative, out of the box thinking I'm confident I can make significant user friendly changes to forum profiles.

So I guess the question is, when will this happen?

This is content is my pretty much my highest priority atm. There may be small updates in the meantime but the forum profile is my major focus. This month is pretty hectic for me, but after that I should be able to sink my teeth into this update and hopefully make steady progress :)

I had a thought when I read this, but a bit like Aorox I thought I may as well share it :)

In order to request a title, (most) players need to make a post on your thread to ask for it, right? Would it be possible to have Linkify look at the post making the request at some time interval? So as an example...

The title "fun loving" would belong to the owner of post 261-262-33-65181208-8819-336871419 ... Which would currently be "Krakkeh"... So then Linkify checks for that name when applying the title. Say at midnight, Krakkeh changes her name to "Krakkeh2", Linkify could check at 5 AM at the above post ID, find that the name has changed, and adjust accordingly?

No idea how much effort is involved in that, or if it would be effective.. Just thought I'd share what's on my mind :)

That would definitely work for those who post here.

But 883 pages need to be scanned and since this forum is private it can't be done externally.

That means linkify has to do it from in the browser, and that means someone is making excessive requests.

Also determining the title from all the text is a problem. If a strict format was adhered to, it would work. As it is, it would not work as the format of requests differ greatly.

In theory it could be done, but the benefits are quickly lost from scraping a large volume of pages.

I could quote every title request and reformat it and then place the quotes on page one, and have linkify scan that page. But there is a limit to how many characters I can put in a post. If the thread QFC changes (has happened twice on this very thread), or the user doesn't have HLF access, or the user requested the title via twiiter, it wont work.

But this brings me back to my main point with display names and why from a developer point of view I really don't like them.

I'm just not prepared to chase/up-keep them manually. It's never ending. If Jagex make a public API then I wouldn't hesitate, but as it is, I choose stay away from them :)

The current method requires no maintenance, no page scraping, no extra work for linkify and no additional resources, and most importantly no headaches for me :)

In theory...yes.
In practice...no.
In reality...not going to happen :)

Edit:

It's actually a very good suggestion and it is something I have toyed around with. Your overall approach is pretty much along the lines I had considered.

No headaches for Indy are certainly important... Thank you for the informing reply :) -slides you a cuppa to make up for causing you to have to type so much-

Laughing, ty for the cuppa. I was still typing (editing) when you posted again :)

As I said in my edit, it's a good suggestion. Just that it would still require me to do what I already do in some cases, and I'd still have the addition of maintaining pages of quotes.

I have trouble updating the version number in my OP, that alone is reason to keep it as is :)

I love your plans for Linkify a la favorites and watch lists. I'm really looking forward to that. That's awesome. No, you're awesome ;) I'd be right there coding my heart out with you if I knew the first thing about it, but I might as well have been born yesterday on the subject lol...

* sips my cuppa *

Thank you Body Duo :)

The profile will be a pretty major update and I have barely begun. I don't want to work on it in dribs and drabs, that's why I'm waiting until I have time (September/October is always busy for me ). When things settle down I'll focus on it and nail it hard :)
