Don't be shy, I mean you don't need to be shy on this thread :)

Hmmm, I just realised I probably shouldn't have quoted you :/

I assume with direct write you are doing this: chrome://flags/#disable-direct-write and not through your operating system. I know direct write can have some unexpected results depending on DPI settings, but not like what you have described.

The fact it's only quotes, and the only difference with quotes from the rest of the forums is the text is italic. I suspect this may not be coincidence. I'm not saying all italic text will appear that way on forums. But this might be a clue, since missing and blurry text can both fall under a font rendering issue.

Now I'm going stop myself from any further speculation. because I need to know one major thing. Does this happen with Linkify disabled?

Also if it's not too much trouble can you post a small screenie of the blurry text.

! Yay no shyness!

And, I am using Windows 8.1. I had previously used Firefox, since Chrome did not sit well with my old desktop. Once I got a new desktop, I was able to use briefly use Chrome and Linkify, but one of Chrome's updates had broken it, and I had never gone back.

During that time, I hadn't noticed any quoting issues, but I also noticed a slight blur with the Direct Write.

Here you go:

This time, when disabling Direct Write, there is a slight difference between the text. Also, I've only noticed the blur on RS forums, but I've not poked around enough to see any other issues. The difference, though, is very subtle and still readable, but it's still a tad blurry.

When Linkify is disabled, and Direct Write, too, the quotes appear to be intact.

So, I am not too sure.

Also, I've not edited the font settings on my computer, since I've never bothered to edit them.

O.O

Edit: You might have to enlarge the image to see the slight differences. @.@

It gets more noticeable, though, if there's a lot of text.

^Thanks for the fast reply :)

I can see the difference with the text you posted. That's pretty much what I'd expect to see from those settings, to me it looks like they are working as they should.

I have played around with direct-write but I haven't been successful in reproducing the missing quote text.

This being a seemingly isolated case makes it tricky solve. When many people experience the same issue it's usually easier to track down. But just because not many are experiencing this problem doesn't make it any less important to me.

I'm basically going to go through a process of elimination and try different things. I'm going to push out an update (in about an hour) that will remove some things that I think may clash with direct-write. It may take a while for chrome to update the extension though, and the changes may not make any difference.

I'll edit this post with the new version number when the update is live. That way if you wish to manually update you can.

Edit: Version 3.1.7.44 has some small changes, don't know if it will help though.

I'm not sure how this will go, because I can't be sure linkify alone is the cause, but I wont know until I try.

Fingers crossed :)

I think you'll find when a url is posted without the http prefix it's been typed rather and copy/pasted. Those people deserve a special kind of punishment, a combination of extreme pain, ridicule, and the words Hyper Text Transfer Protocol should be neatly branded into their skin. This may seem harsh but it's actually kindness, and makes a good reminder that sloppy urls are bad.

It's funny because we're talking about Zach, and he's fun to bully :D

Not sure if it will help, I'll just try a few things. I'm not even sure if I can do anything about it. It's a process of elimination and it's a clumsy process with no guarantees.

But as I said before I need to try :)

Oh nothing will break, the first thing I have done is remove some redundant code that addressed an old font issue that's no longer needed.

I'm a forgiving person and I like otters too.

But I believe in doing my bit to help make a better world. A better world for us and for future generations.

URL Blasphemy, is the most vile and corruptive of all sins. Even though I forgive you, others may not. I believe the punishment is apt.

I fixed that for you... You missed out on a valuable pun =)

Edit: I also fixed some coffee for you, which was the main reason I came here.... Yet I seem to have forgotten to mention that while catching up on this :)
