Having the player manually select (and crop) the part of the post they want to block seems to be the best approach (if I understood correctly). It reminds me a bit of Adblock.

I don't know how adblock works, and I'm still not sure how I'm going to go about it.

Problems are when blocking a signature, quoting that post will still contain the sig. The quote text is stored elsewhere and doesn't match the posted text (one is HTML other is mix of plain text, BB code, and entities. So matching the blocked text in the quote text, will pretty much never match. That makes it hard to weed out.

Then there is other people's quotes that contain the sig, not even sure what I'm to do there.

Even if I can match a sig in a post in a quote, shortening the post wont fix it (that will only remove the bottom the post). Also shortening the quote that contains the sig wont fix it because the quote width is less than original post width, thus text is arranged differently.

I make no promises with this, it's not something I want to focus much of my attention on. I'm happy to look at it and try some things, but there is a limit to how much effort I'll put into it ( too hassly ). If it comes at cost of time and resources that I'd rather use elsewhere, then it may not happen.

It's not that I don't care, but they are only troll signatures, they shouldn't ever impact my time or Linkify's resources. I have already put time into this, and I will continue to do so. But that just feels like the success of sig trolling is amplified when I put a day into coding and have nothing to show for it, essentially linkify developments stops when I work on this stuff.

In the end I have to be careful that I don't feel resentful, not about the sigs, but about making an imperfect solution.
