Blasty and Ryan M, pretty much covered everything with those links, so I'll explain what I do and don't do, and why.
There are couple things with image links, aside from the file extension not being at the end of the url. I suspect embedding them is actually embedding more than just an image.
TBH I haven't looked closely at those links, and yes I could easily make RS Linkify embed everything that resembled an image.
Generally if RS Linkify doesn't embed an image if because...
- It can't verify it's an image.
- The image no longer exists.
- The structure of the URL doesn't conform to a direct image links.
- Information is missing (no file extension).
Like many things, there are false positives and this is no exception. However the basic process of elimination that I use to determine image embedding has far more positives than negatives. Many potential issues are avoided this way.
I am always keen to improve on embedding content, and I will look into this some more. I need to learn what those URLs are actually doing. If they are doing something more than just pointing to an image, I will be reluctant to embed them.
