I am intrigued..

Not exactly a teaser but it's related to what I mentioned.

76 Linkify users viewing High Level General. I assume 29 active users means they have posted recently.

That was a couple of hours ago, at the time I'm posting this it's 32 linkify users to 18 active users. Also some of the active users would be Linkify users too.

Got to keep in mind not all linkify users are accounted for, I have no way of knowing exactly. Also there would be a number of non linkify users lurking that aren't accounted for in the active users.

Basically it means there is many people here viewing threads than I thought. And more Linkify users than I thought too :)

Edit:

Before making this post, there was one Linkify user viewing this thread, I expect that was me.

couple of minutes later...

At the same time Off Topic has 4 active users.

That looks like it's going to be the answer to some peoples curiosity of just how many people use Linkify.

As for the "Active users", I believe it's if you have visited the main page, you don't have to post. (I've gone into off topic with 0 active users, refresh and it went up to 1)

Is that the amount of Linkify users that currently have services.runescape.com/.../forums.ws?259,260 / 261,262 open, for instance?

Than 76 users was the HL General page and any thread within that section combined.

I'm in the process of separating the data for each individual thread like I showed with my linkfy thread example.

That way I can show most viewed thread for the day/week/month. Posts to views ratio etc. I'm even counting quotes so I can tally how many quotes were made for a given time period. I'm counting edits too, pretty much everything I can think of, so I can see what parts of Linkify get the most use.

The stats will be interesting, x amount of posts quoted in a week. X amount of edits, X amount of page views, and so on.

Damn I need to stop calling it High Level General :/

Also those numbers are the most extreme examples I've seen so far. But it's early days so I don't know what's typical as yet.

Also the way it works is, if you were to navigate to another page on the same thread it wont count as another thread view.

So landing on page 1 of thread and reading though all pages will count as a single thread view.

If you post a reply and have quoted two people that will count as two quotes and one post.

If you edit and preview and edit again and submit it will only count as one edit.

I'm trying make sure the numbers aren't exaggerated so I'm limiting what I can to keep it as real as possible.

This sounds like it's going to be a very good feature... However, I have a question:

What happens with "quote box spam", I could probably find a few examples but I believe you know what I mean.

When people are doing that intentionally, and adding no extra text to the post, will two nested quotes count as two quotes, or just one?

All nests count as single quote.

What I was saying before about this being an interesting update, is it will be very different because it's an information update, not a forum enhancement.

There is no way I can display the data within the pages, and there is no way I can feed users real time stats. For my own protection I'm not letting RS Linkify interact with any of my own external resources that require me to log in.

So what I think I'll do is use the last reserve on page 1. For daily or weekly data.

It'll be like what's hot, what's viewed the most. What got the most posts. General stats about every forum section (excluding some specialist forums).

I'll probably do graphs and stuff, the idea is that the post will auto update.

The upside to this is will keep RS Linkify nice and light and will be easy to maintain. I could put it in the options pages but the data might be interesting to those who don't use RS Linkify too. I think it should be viewable to all.

People have been asking for thumbs up/down system and aside from limitations I'm not keen on that. This data will provide so much more to all users.

Anyway I'm still not sure yet, I have lots to do :)

I don't think people would mind that it's not a forum enhancement. Lots and lots of people on the HLF like statistics, I'm not sure if you saw all the praise Mod Porky got (gets) on Twitter/the HLF for the data he provides.

I can't wait for the information to be honest, it's going to be very interesting indeed.

As for the information being on a HLF thread, is there going to be any way to track the data for non-maxed people, or tracking the rest of the RSoF?

And as for your protection, I don't think anybody minds about not having real time stats as it is not very secure for you.

Edit: Clarified my question.

Already getting data from other sections. I just get what RS Linkify sees.

It doesn't matter what section. However I'm purposely making it ignore some forum sections because that's meant to be private. Moderator forums for example I'm avoiding.

Best way to explain it is, RS Linkify is a hit counter and nothing more.

It counts how many times submit or quote button has been clicked.

It counts how many times a link as been clicked (thread view).

I have no idea who clicks, all I know is what was clicked.

Fair enough!

Edit: I see. It sounds pretty good.

Also, with my question above, I guess I meant to ask whether they will be able to see the data without being maxed.
