Just had a thought! Someone pm'd me asking why my members badge on the forums looked so good ('cause it's Zaros, clearly), and it made me think... Some RS players who aren't heavy into lore might prefer an option to switch their membership badge back to the normal one. I know that I personally prefer the standard badge to the premium one (but Zaros trumps all!), so if the Zaros option weren't there I'd opt for the old one back :)

I have one problem with that...

The first digit of avatar code determines the icon like this...

1 = no God icon
2 = Armadyl
3 = Bandos
4 = Godless
5 = Saradomin
6 = Seren
7 = Sliske
8 = Zamorak
9 = Zaros

This is so a separate code isn't needed for icons. It was just nice there is only 8 to choose from.

0 (zero) is the only digit not used, and currently that would work. I could use it for the original members badge.

But there was a time when leading zeros were removed from qfc after a post was submitted. There is actually a lot of things that can be with qfc that couldn't be done not very long ago. But I suspect this will not be permanent.

The way I use the qfc conforms to the format that they are designed to use. This so far has eliminated potential issues that arise after small forum changes. Consider the fact that the qfc behaviour has changed a number of times and custom avatars still work. This is because I haven't strayed from the correct format that qfc use.

I don't want to branch into the second digit because that will limit the amount of custom avatars to 999. There are already 250ish in use.

I won't say no it can't be done with the current method I'm using, but I can't be sure it will last. For now I'd rather wait and see what the next big update to forums does. I could have my hands full as it is if the qfc no longer works for custom avatars.

There are other possibilities though.

Current avatar code is...
[qfc id=14-15 page=10000][/qfc]

I may be able to do something like...
[qfc id=14-15-
XX
page=10000][/qfc]

But this means a rework of the avatar code system, else existing codes may break. Also the new digits added need to make sense (point to something). Remember when my old thread fell off page 50.

Cont.

Avatars broke when the qfc no longer pointed to a legit target. As I said it seems atm we can get away with a bit more, but I don't trust it.

Sorry for the long answer, but I wanted to explain the limitations I have because some people may be wondering why don't I do more with it. It has much potential but also can be real pain if it breaks.

Basically I want qfc to be legit so to avoid issues.

- testing - valid, 2-part qfc refers to a section
- [qfc id=14-15-1]testing[/qfc]
- testing - valid, 4-part qfc refers to a thread
- [qfc id=14-15-1-1-1]testing[/qfc]
- testing - valid, 6-part qfc refers to a post
- [qfc id=14-15-1-1-1-1-1]testing[/qfc]
- [qfc id=14-15-1-1-1-1-1-1]testing[/qfc]

Using a 4-part qfc should always be valid tbh because they wouldn't leave it unparsed for threads in the grave. They only might do that for qfc id's that don't follow a certain format. The valid pattern atm seems to be 1-3 digits for the 3rd value and 8 digits for the 4th value.

That should give some room for further additions in the future :)

E: same with posts, 1-3 digits for the 5th value, 9 digits for the 6th value.
