Thanks for that, Werewolf.

Seems something has changed. I just looked on wiki and their method doesn't work either. I'll have a dig through Jagex's scripts during the week and see what I can come up with. Not sure how long it'll take me but I'll make another post when I know some more.

Thanks again for letting me know :)

Edit: I think I have a solution. Looks like I can pull the data from rune metrics since the old method no longer works. I have so far avoided rune metrics because it was a bit unreliable, but I have no choice now.

Btw Indy - I'm not sure if you have or use Discord, but after a lot of requests to have an off-site place like the old HLF TS, a HLF discord has been made if you'd be interested in joining it. ^_^

https://discord.gg/HBDbqqr

If there's anyone else you'd know interested also, feel free to pass it on :P

Thanks, Loki. I'll spread the word next time I log in (though it has been a while since I've done that).

Not sure when this will reach the forums but when it does RS Linkify will be impacted as it doesn't run on secure pages.

This means if I update RS Linkify to run on https, users will have to agree to new permissions (prompted by chrome) to allow the extension to run. It might also impact some features such as mixed content (https pages can't talk to http content). Though I think most or perhaps all of what RS Linkify embeds is served over https. But there may be the odd thing that will no longer work.

The other thing is I'm not very active here, in the past I have always managed to accommodate forum changes within 24 hours. It might be days before I'm even aware and it will take me some time to get things back on track.

To be honest I'm not feeling very keen to do any major work for these forums. My time is both limited and valuable to me and it has never been appreciated by Jagex. I given a lot for many years, so I'll see how I feel when the time comes. I guess what I'm saying is I don't feel a sense of urgency to get things up and running in regard to future forum changes. Jagex are not only unappreciative they have never kept their word when they say they'll give me a heads up on forum changes. They make it hard for me to care.

To summarise, if the forums are severed over https, RS Linkify will be down and I'm not sure for how long. I will keep everyone in the loop via this thread as things happen :)

Hey Indy, I don't know what but something told me to check this thread. Jagex migrating to HTTPS is a good thing, of course, although one has to wonder why it took them so long (lmao). I share your feelings. You don't do this for Jagex, you do this for your users, but Jagex being assholes isn't helping and makes development much harder. That's 100% understandable, but sad at the same time.

Whatever decision you make is alright and I will support you all the way <3

Hey Indy ^_^

It's really sad that all of what you've done hasn't been shown much love over the years, however, I don't think you need to worry at all if Linkify goes down for a day, a week, a month, or however long it takes to finish. Your time is yours , and with Linkify being a side project, it shouldn't take up all your spare time. Anyone who uses Linkify would know how much work you've been putting into the creation and upkeep of the extension, and I'm fairly certain will not worry if it's down for a while.

It's helped many of us for years, so a few days/weeks/months, isn't going to hurt. If people can't understand that you have other commitments in life, then forget them. There's still a lot of us here who love you and what you've done for us, and well try to give support to you whenever and wherever needed. <3

Thanks Morgypie and Loki, you're both amazing and I so much appreciate what you both said :)

There will be down time and I really don't want my users to feel left in the dark. Chances are I know less than most people as I don't follow any j-mods on social media. It was pure chance I saw the tweet about https. And yes it wont be a bad thing for the forums, but I expect it will be a bit of work for them to change over.

I'm really not sure what changes I'll have to make or if I'll have to drop features. But I've learnt I can't prepare for forum changes or anticipate when those changes will come. I just have to wait and see and do the best I can at the time.

I'm not about to abandon RS Linkify, but I have been concerned it may feel that way if it takes me a little while to get things up and running. Feels good to at least mention it here as I expect I'll log in one day only to find my app hasn't running for a few days.

Anyway, for now I'll keep logging in a little more frequently to keep an eye things :)

Yo Indy, whatever happens, thank you for all the effort you've put into making Linkify and maintaining it! > ) If there's going to be some downtime, that's unfortunate, but understandable considering your situation.

I also have a few questions, if you don't mind, about the thingy under forum avatar that reveals the name of the clan the person is in (if any); how does it work exactly? I left my clan well over a month ago by now, and it still says I'm in it, even though I'm not. Where does it take its data from (the RS website, Runeclan, ...)? And considering my situation, where it shows false information, is it an issue that can be resolved on your end, or is it something like cached data on my browser that I have to clear, or...?

Hiya Blackwing,

I haven't seen that before with the clan name, though chances are this is nothing new, just took a while for someone to notice.

The information comes from runescape. It's returned from their website-data API. That's what this website uses as does RS Linkify. So it would seem the data it reads from has not been updated. I checked on the clan pages are you are not listed as a clan member. I can only assume there must be more than one pool of data and the data the forums can access is out of date.

There is nothing you can do from your end, this data won't be cached in your browser. The issue resides on runescape.com. I don't know if I can validate the data before displaying it. I will look at alternatives but the only reason I have included this feature is because the data already comes bundled within the forum pages. Any other method might be a heavy recourse and not viable for these slow old pages. I won't know until I look deeper into it.

Here's an example link to show the data that RS Linkify reads...
http://services.runescape.com/m=website-data/playerDetails.ws?names=%5B%22blackwing%22%5D&callback=jQuery000000000000000_0000000000&_=0

Thanks for posting and for a detailed description of the issue, I'll let you know when I find out a little more :)
