disassemble the Linkify extension

nothing really to disassemble, it is a chrome package with javascript/css. It downloads to a folder on your computer without any obfuscation.

and use it to compromise your system? All I would need to do is have my server respond to the Linkify requests...

Here is the problem, nobody has rights to publish new releases of linkify but Indy. They would have to pay money to google to become a chrome plugin publisher, make their own plugin, get people to download their plugin, all to have the first person who gets infected report the plugin to google and have the plugin removed from the marketplace, and them to get banned from publishing further plugins.

Also, Hi Indy! Figured I would come by your thread, since I was in the neighborhood.

Singularity quoted the following into the HLF lounge - How plausible? :P

It isn't plausible. I don't even know how to respond to such a thing.

He'd have to hack into google and take control of the hosted plugins, good luck with that.

The only thing his post has done is undermine any credibility he might have had.

I'm used to this, so many 'code experts' on runescape who give sweet fuck all to the community and only try to cause harm though misinformation or fear tactics to those who do. They do it to feed their ego because they can't better themselves any other way.

Hiya AoDude, nice to see you. Hope all has been well for you :)

Thanks for your post clarifying some things in regards to what Nexus0rigin said.

And even bigger thank you for the coffee, just what I needed :)

Maybe he's just that good :O

And yea, haha, if he were linking an "image" we'd see there isn't one there

Hello good people :)

Just posting to say there will be some additions and some changes to RS Linkify very soon. This is due to the forum rules become more relaxed. Rowley raised some good points about some old features and how they may be more useful than ever very soon.

The main thing will be a whitelist for approved sites. Currently there is only a blacklist and it serves its purpose quite well on HLF. However across the entire forums is a different story, thus I will be making things more flexible and cover a wider range of scenarios.

Use of the white list will be optional but I may make it enabled by default. It will include a small set of domains such as imgur, reddit.com/r/runescape, .reddit.com/r/oldschool, puush, gyazo, youtube, etc.

I'm thinking of providing some extra options on how to handle non whitelisted domains. Example (a) Don't embed but generate a link; (b) Don't embed or link. With the latter being the default.

I'm not sure about making the whitelist work in tandem with the blacklist or making it that you can only use one or the other. I think it may be preferable that both can be used together however I'm not yet sure how to handle duplicate domains but I think I can work out something.

I might also bring back the url un-shortening feature as well (I still need to look into this)

Basically I want need to know if anyone has any concerns or suggestions regarding RS Linkify and the forum rules. Now is the time voice them so I can get onto it asap.

Is there a way to make exceptions for more specific URLs? Like if "reddit.com" was blacklisted (for whatever reason) but "reddit.com/r/runescape" was whitelisted, then that specific one would generate a link

Or a way to prioritise the whitelist over the blacklist, so..
• Linkify checks the page for "reddit.com/r/runescape" because it's on the whitelist
• Linkify linkifies the link
• The blacklist sees "reddit.com", but, since the whitelist has already worked on it, does nothing

I think a situation like that would be quite uncommon, but I suppose someone could do it

And no concerns here :)
