Hmm, would it be accurate to say a task has twice as much chance to be assigned if it was preferred? It would mean it would have "double weight." Glacor has 8 weight, and with prefer task, it will have 16 weight and has as much chance as appearing as an airut task.
Why? Because prefer task is like rolling two tasks, which gives any specific task twice as much as appearing. It doesn't say anything about duplicate task (first roll being dbs, second roll be dbs again.)
It might explain why some tasks are given weirdly low weighting.

That seems logical, although I only have dark beasts preferred and I went through over 500 slayer points skipping tasks and didn't get it assigned once.

Probably just bad luck though
Aside from the bad luck not being assigned one, I think it was programmed you get an increasing likelihood of getting assigned dbs tasks the more successive tasks you have done. Same is done for Hall of Fame slayer challenge as well.

So let's see if this is true. Assuming an unmodified sum of weights of 285 for Morvran, say you're trying to get a Kalgerion Demon task with weight 5. As it currently is, we are rolling twice and getting the Kalgerion Demon task if we roll it at least one of those times. The chances that this happens are (1 - chance we don't roll it) which is (1 - (280/285)^2) = ~3.47%.
Now say we are instead doubling the weight of this monster. We would also need to add this doubled weight into the sum of all weights, so we now have a 290 cap. Our chances of rolling a Kalgerion Demon task in this case is (1 - 280/290) = ~3.45%.
So, at least for this task, the "roll twice" method is better! These calculations would likely change a lot as you probably have more than one preferred task, some blocked tasks, etc...
However, something else to consider: what happens when you roll two preferred tasks? Which one is chosen? This also affects the chances of getting a specific task.
Based on calculations above, it seems that the Double Roll method does increase your chances of getting a preferred task more than the Double Weight method.
The amount of increase itself is just under double.
