*Forum system is outdated.
*Over moderation (outside of HLF) results in people not bothering with the RSOF at all, ergo no interest in unlocking HLF.
*Jmods completely ignore everything here in favor of reddit and twitter.

Why and how the forum is dying is far less perplexing than if it weren't dying.

*Over moderation (outside of HLF) <------ this !

I dont think HLF is dead, seems pretty normal for a high level content, high level players arent social they're all about xp and bossing with people who are pros etc all seriousness and no fun....

Plus most people don't even know about HLF, its not like its advertised. If people knew you could post pics on forums and there was a sections with less moderation and the guy in charge of overseeing the HLF has been mia. It would be lit ed8ers be all over HLF and spammers/ranters would be making stupid threads. People just think about forums as regular forums which got ruined by all those forum mods abusing their powers and so forth..

This has been on my mind recently. It's a little depressing how quiet it has become here. Not that HLF was ever truly a beacon of awesomeness, but it was something to be a part of, and I enjoyed it for what it was. There were some good days here, and some memories.

The lack of activity and information posted here (even reposting information from third party sites) has led me to lurk reddit. I still lurk here, but there's not much going on, and much less worth replying to.

It's a shame, really. I miss some of the posters here. Even though I didn't know most of them super well, it was still a way of getting to know different players in the game. I definitely don't get the same feeling from reddit, even from those I recognize.

The main reasons I can think of are Reddit, people moving on to more popular games atm like OW, along with getting older and having more real life commitments such as work, family etc

Like others have said, it's a shame but time goes on and people eventually move on to other things, it's been a fun time though, I remember when I first joined HLF and some threads were just super useful, like Kags ports threads when it came out
People die when they are killed

Over moderation in the general forums would be a factor I think. The player base has matured over time, but the moderation on the forums didn't really change with it. My forum access was nuked for a year in the EOC period for what was really quite a small thing. Many wouldn't have even realised (or cared) that the HLF was/is much more liberal and better.
