Do you have any faith at all in any future updates being good?

All necessary, wanted updates are shelved. All dev time goes into a mobile app that will result in no player increase at all and a mining/smithing update that has been so long coming that nobody has cared for years now.

Every single update that arrives is either broken, buggy, badly balanced or irrelevant and the staff count keeps dropping whilst they are put onto other projects.

If there is any reason other than sunken cost that are people are still excited about this game, please let me know. And tbh, that is not even a good excuse any more. Back in 2014 this account was one of the best in the entire game and I just quit on the spot and never looked back, you can do the same.

Uhm, I do have faith. Runescape is still my favourite game (RS3, I can't stand OSRS).
I may sound like a fanboy, but RS was the first game I truly ever played (miniclips games was a once and never return), and I doubt I'll quit anytime soon.

I'm maxed on osrs and have trimmed comp on rs3, as far as future updates, well, I have really enjoyed the two recent quests that we got, some of the new mid-higher level skilling updates we have got are pretty cool too. PoF took a while but I really enjoyed that and likewise with the elite dungeons. I don't like the boneheaded approach to some things, such as orion and his ge limit on scales, and a refusal to take feedback on board till all of reddit and twitter are calling jagex an idiot, but I think for all the shit that we do give them they do an alright job.

I'm still pissed about the bank rework of course, and as much as I enjoyed Elite Dungeons, to relate them in any way to Dungeoneering I think is almost an insult to the skill. Nice stand alone content of course, but it being the only dg content since the gowers left is really disappointing due to how unlike dg it actually is.

That being said, I think that they can get content right, and certainly do so. It just remains that it happens less and less in favour of MTX promotions and all that.

Pretty much my feelings on RS3, nowadays.

I play both versions on the same account and can definitely say that RS3 needs some hope. Why I continue to play it, I'm not honestly sure.

There will be good updates in the future. There will also be bad updates in the future. That's the way it's always been. Patches and quality of life additions have always been the best part of updates for me and I don't see that changing. Am I still excited for this game? Not really. Excitement ran out when I was like 15. I do still play it and have fun though.

Runescape has always filled a special niche for me. It has the aspects I like about larger games like boss monsters, events, frequent additions and character progression. It also fills in some of the things I liked about console games like repetitiveness. With few exceptions, everything in this game is available to the solo player yet it has the environment of an MMO. I like that I can log in after work and have everything I do count towards bettering my character, even if it's just a little.

I would have more faith if they cut down on the MTX but I'm reletively happy with it as it is. Ofc, it's far easier now than it used to be, I literally just got 200m fishing while playing xbox and clicking every now and again, no skill at all.

I don't really focus on future updates. I never look forward to "update days". That died a long time ago (probably after constantly seeing nothing of interest get put out).

I only play RS3 because I still find enjoyment in existing content. Once that dies, I won't log in at all.

I suppose when the main focus of RS3 is maximum profit, it's no surprise that the game is in this state. Stuff becomes bad generally when the focal point becomes all about maximising profits of whoever is in charge of running things at a particular company.

It's true companies need money. Without it, none would be able to sustain their existence. However, some companies take the need for profit further than others and it shows. It really does. They might be raking in the money and look good on financial records/reports, but it's usually at the expense of everyone else. The state of the product is usually all over the place.

OSRS does well for a reason: they aren't focused on just what fills their pockets. They dare to try things. It's not just, "oh we aren't getting X amount of cash, so we can't be bothered". You could say it works this way because OSRS is allowed to be that way. Same company runs the game after all.

Chances are RS3 satisfies their profit needs enough to not need to risk anything with OSRS. OSRS developers likely aren't under the same amount of pressure as RS3 developers. Management are maybe more lax with them, allowing them to maintain quality and give the players what they actually want and ask for.

There's still a lot to enjoy about RS3 but most of it lies with existing content and not future content. There just seems to be an issue in general with the way things are run behind the scenes on RS3. Something is capping the developers' potential and it's showing in everything they release. Until whatever is broken behind the scenes is fixed, nothing will change.

It's a shame, but it is what it is.

you are looking back now though.

rs3 is done, has been for quiet some time now. Past 3 years they have done nothing, they are putting no effort into it anymore. Maybe because they don't make a good return on it and old school is much more attractive for them.
Spend to long on this game to leave though,so I will come back now and then to look back.
If ever go play again I would play old school,my friend plays that now but I couldn't get myself to join (yet)
