A lot of them are certainly like 'Rs3 sux cuz u kan max wif MTX lol fgts'.

it's easy to say stuff like that, cuz it's an easy way to "offend people" . but it's very likely that they've spent money on MTX before, and doesn't essentially mean that is why they actually moved to 07.

Though, thinking about it, I guess some lower levels with irl cash to blow would probably spend money on MTX, maxing skills, etc. I think to that effect it would go down better (in terms of MTX spending) with the mid-low level community, as opposed to the higher end.

only the small percentage of people will MTX enough for jagex to make massive amounts of money, they just need to connect to the minority to make it worth while - which is a scary prospect for anyone.

Honestly osrs probably has over 50% of the active players at this point, and only like 11 jmods on it. They are enough to develop it, but customer support etc are common jmods, and they are exclusively funded by rs3. With how big the game is now, it would only be fair to tax them a bit more to pay for some of their expenses. I highly doubt osrs is self sufficient which is unfair. Hi

MTX (in terms of selling xp) becomes self defeating, as more people get xp via MTX, the very idea of having a lot of xp becomes less prestigious, which then deters future people from buying xp, therefore weakening MTX sales.

The only question is what they'll try and sell next.

If you have less than 4.5b xp, you can forget getting into the top 100 atm.

Are people really willing to spend lots of irl money to be, what, rank 150-200 permanently? Maybe some are, but certainly not as many.

The botting numbers are much higher in OSRS, for whatever thats worth.

A lot of the EHP/Efficiency mindset in OSRS stems from the fact that there isn't MTX and BXP. Its much easier to have a competitive environment when you know exactly what the best methods are and theres very little an individual player can do to get around that.

I don't think they'll be adding any benefit type MTX to OSRS. They already got bonds which is enough to attract the whales they're looking for to purchase their product. If anything, the lack of BXP and other MTX in OSRS could help fuel their bond sales, as you have those people who are forced to purchase extra bonds for extra money to grind through their experience goals. I don't think the stigma of direct BXP to increase the exp rate of gathering skills would warrant the negative public perception that would be attached to it.

Maybe, but it is a risk against community backlash/potential quittings, etc.

It's honestly a bit unpredictable what the long, or even short term, response would be. But it'll likely work well enough for Jagex, but may harm game longevity.
