I think it really sucks to give players who use FB, the worst piece of sh*t in the entire web imo, an advantage over others.
Why does everything you do "for the community" suck so horribly recently? You could really do a better job there.

No one is forcing you. Please ignore the competition and continue to "just want to play RuneScape and that's it".
If you're inferring that Jagex is spending time on things like this and not on players like you then that's bogus... RuneScape is one of the most frequently updated (and f2p) games on the internet (in terms of content updates).
If you mean "where's the competition for people that just want to player RuneScape" then they've been running those for years. The gallery (first getting your work in, but I think they've recently been giving out free membership too), giving out free membership every month (recently they've been giving out $1000 every month but I think that's ended now), video-making contests, etc, puzzle events (with exclusive outfits), combat events, etc.
Holiday events unlock exclusive content for players who participate. There is now a series of capes that mark your achievements... the Veteran's Cape, the Completionist Cape, etc.

Hi there, i was ranting about the wider picture. I know it was probably inappropriate to rant about customer support and community management on this thread, but the issues being raised by other players are not being replied to so how are we supposed to know that JaGex are listening.

That might be going too far. It's hardly "fun" or involves any participation. It's basically a lottery rather than a contest. ;)
