I would love to have options to do the following:
-Have a private conversation with someone individually (We would send an invitation to them by typing in their username.)
-Have group conversations (It would be part of the clan chat, with options to mute individuals and set your status as 'Microphone unplugged' 'Online' or 'Away' if you haven't talked in a while.)
-Have area talking (For example like castle wars lobby would have a different chat than castle wars game. Also the different sides of minigames would have their own chat. Zamorak would have their own and Saradomin as well.

While I do use a SIP program to chat when playing dungeoneering (it's simply too much typing),
I don't think Runescape should release a new voice service upon the world, simply because a lot of good ones already exist. It sounds hard to beat Skype for instance.

One idea, though, was for JaGeX to set up their own (isolated?) SIP server for players to use. Then players can use whatever VoIP client they like, even a smartphone.
It would be very easy for JaGeX to set up, and you wouldn't necessarily need to be logged into Runescape to use it.

hello... i have used voice chat while playing runescape... it helps alot while pking so you can quickly talk and tell your team what to do while you eat and run... also it helps when pking not just in a team but in a set clan, just in case there is a spy in your clanchat and you dont know it you are talking to the person so the spy will not know what is really going on

I do not use voice chat, but I would if jagex hosted a system for it. The reason why I don't use outside voice systems is because I don't fully trust downloading these programs ect. It's funny that this came out today because my friend told me he got a virus from skyping last night.
If I did use voice chat it would be for pking, and only if it was free.

I would for one like to suggest negating the cost of this to Jagex, by having players buy an add-on cost to their monthly fee of membership to upgrade their clan channel to have voice chat as an option. If its hosted by Jagex, this cost could be extremely low and almost negligible over time, to something like 2.99 per month for a clan channel. I could then stop paying for a different voi* server knowing I would have my own hosted through Jagex. Also this would alleviate a price increase to membership as a whole to pay for this update. This would also go along with the proposed new updates for clan channel ranks.
This way a clan could moderate their own channel, and eliminate the need for 'voice moderators' hopping from room to room to make sure there is not any abusive behavior occurring, which is nigh on impossible to enforce and prove that an offense happened without dedicating quite a few servers to store recordings of offenses as proof for kicks/mutes/bans/reports.

I think a voice chat hosted by runescape would be an excellent oppurtunity to make events and the dungeoneering skill for example more easier as:
It's much easier to communicate what to do to the party
Can organise alot of things at once quicker
And its just simply much faster than typing

It sound like a good Idea. But I probable will not bother with this. I am just worried about the lag it will cause to runescape, when you trying to host multiple conversation on runescape with 100k+ players. The conversation has to be to routed through runescape servers to interface with runescape for people to use and you can imagine the amount of lag it might cause when playing runescape.
How do you moderated a voice conversation? If people have their filter turned on, that means they also want their voice feature to filter out the conversation. Which this is little to no way of moderating voice conversation, without a person eavesdropping on the conversation (u need a lot of people, every minute of the day and not feasible).
How to stop people abusing the system, like shouting swearing their heads off? Trying to coax personal information out of players more easily. Easily to annoy people with advertisements, people who just annoys people for fun, etc...
Also what are the chances of Pe-do-ph-il-ia/stalker taking advantage of that u can talk to other young players?
I still prefer to type, can easier ignore the text than using voice (without going out of your way to find some option to turn it off).
In any case, this requires hard work and money to implement and the chances are, this feature is for members. Probable the Subscription price will go up as well. So either way i not really bothered with this feature.
