I have been using vent and several other voice chat services for years as part of playing other games, and i like them very much and find them very useful. However, i definitely would not like to see them play a bigger part in runescape, largely because of the nature of runescape's gameplay and community as it is today and has been since i started playing, does not lend itself well to anything resembling real life interaction. Runescape players are generally still very immature and need heavey moderation. This cannot really be offered in a voice chat room.
Runescape is a game i still play largely because of qualities like how convenient it is to log in and get going, and i don't have to worry about things that sometimes can come to feel like obligations- such as opening up my damn voice chat client and talking to people. If my runescape clan insisted on usig vent, i would leave it. An d if everyone was using vent here, i would probably quit. Because runescape is a place i come to escape from all that.
Furthermore, There is the fact that once voice chat is involved, players of whatever game tend to share more of their real life details with eachother than those who stick to text. Worth keeping in mind jagex. And finally, my main point; nobody likes in-game voice chat, i have yet to see a game developer provide a voice chat service that was not inferior to the point that we all used something else for any serious instance/raid etc. Other game developers generally seem to consider voice chat as the business ofd the players, and it seems to me that everyone is happiest this way. I hope we won't see jagex make another mistake trying to keep up with its neighbours here.
