I would love to see a Voice Chat option open up in RuneScape. Typing is cool for general activities like Skilling. But when you get into any serious monster hunting, Questing, or Minigames, typing becomes a possibly deadly hassle. Voice chat would also be pretty cool for going through lengthy dialogue, as you don't have access to the chatbox during those times.
I would definitely vote yes for Voice Chat in RuneScape.

My Goals
Thoughts/Concerns:
Do I use Skype? YES. Almost every day when I am playing. RuneScape is an exciting game, and playing with 'voice chat' makes it a blast.
Using a program has cons also; most importantly... being able to obtain another player's IP address.
This is why I choose Skype. With the correct knowledge of the vulnerabilities, how to avoid them, and the obvious rules of 'don't talk to strangers, no cyber bullying, etc...' I know that I can have fun and not worry about a DDoS.
If Jagex were to follow through with this, I'm sure they will make a safe system where they are considered the host and yada-yada.. So this is a plus
!
As someone who mainly plays off of a Wireless Internet system, I am under the risk of the every-so-annoying 'Connection Lost - Please Wait, Attempting to Re-establish' notification.
This message ^ usually only comes onto RuneScape, and my other Applications that are running are still connected. While on Skype I am able to inform my team/friends of my DC, giving me an opportunity to explain why I'm standing in-game doing nothing.
If we were to use a program built within the game, I would be under the assumption that I would lose my connection on both Applications at once. Therefore I would find this frustrating.
On the other hand... I'm sure there are many people out there who do not have this problem, and I am only speaking for few of us. So if push comes to shove, I would just choose Skype.
I'm sure you all will do a great job with this, and I am interested in hearing about some of the other players' ideas/suggestions.
OVERALL:
I give this project a big "CHEERS," and "HUZZAH."
AKA - GO FOR IT
!
Just like bonus-exp-weekend, i think Jagex should release this for a limited time (1 weekend)
When their technology allows it of course. You know, to test the waters as they say.

Good point about the 'connection lost' issue many players could be faced with.

this feature doesn't interest me, as i would never use it.
i hope though, if it is implemented, that my connection wouldn't suffer as an effect of the people around me voice chatting. ie - a disable button, not just an off button.
the lag at the ge on some worlds is crazy enough as it is.
about time you guys got the message about voice chat all you got to do now is think up a way to inpl*ment this into the game and not have it interfere in a busy area like the ge and give players the opertunity to have private chat
but i think the best thing about it is you guys at jagex cant monitor what people talk about
I think it could work if the number of players in chat were kept low, but also limit it so people could be silenced, or loose the privalage alltogeter if reported.
if they do this though they would need to ugrade their report system in a big way.
dont you guys get it voice chat would be on a diffrent serverconnected to the rs server so it wouldnt cause lag wow has the same system for in game voice chat and the game runs very smooth
Hi! I use Skype to talk to my friends all the time. ill call them with my webcam and detachable Mic. I would love to have button to establish a voice chat with friends on my friends list. maybe incoperate Skype friends so if you could talk to Skype about that, that would be great. some computers don't have Skype so i would like to chat with friends from anywhere. what would also be great is if you made an Iphone app that you could call and Instant Message online friends. thx rs rulz!
well that why you have private chat settings
open chat=everyone/anyone can join
invite only=only those you invite can join
closed=only those you invite can join no outsiders
