How many posts have you made saying "I will pass this to Jagex and get back to you"? And how many of those posts have you actually followed up with "Hey listen this is what they said"?
Actually, I very much make it a point to update threads I escalate when any information from Jagex becomes available, and while sometimes that unfortunately means relaying that a certain thing isn't a priority, or simply acknowledging there's no word from Jagex on a particular issue, I try and be as transparent as possible in the process and to keep the community in the loop about whatever I can. There are also times where the appropriate JMod receives the escalation and actions it instead of one of us - like with creating a new Crystal Math Labs verification thread.
Neriphyra and I have been doing everything we can with the tools that we're equipped with at the moment to help the community here, and I think that there are people on the RSOF that would attest to the fact that we're very actively involved in the community, and constantly looking for suggestions, criticism and ideas. I'm not just saying that in a placating way, we want to know how WE can make the forums better for YOU.
I understand you're frustrated and feel like we're just blowing smoke, or leading you on, but at the moment, with no JMod accounts, there are still things we're not able to action or take care of, and I think you will see a tangible, noticeable difference in things after we get our accounts. I understand your criticisms, but the last few times you've brought up the same points and we've addressed them very thoroughly. We're doing everything within our permissions right now, and we very much appreciate everyone's patience and understanding while things get finished on Jagex's end and we can get our JMod accounts.
As always, both Neriphyra and I are always here to chat!
Community Manager for Jagex
To touch on what you've said... both CM Neriphyra and I come from backgrounds of community management in a variety of settings, and both happen to be RuneScape lovers, and were hired on by Jagex through Keywords to help out here on the RSOF in the capacity of JMods.
As Mod Cam has mentioned in this thread, Jagex sees us as an extension of the team, and our whole reason for being here is to help players and forumers feel listened to, respected, and a part of the community. Our aim is to help facilitate more communication between Jagex and everyone here, and to improve the forum experience for everyone, so we're always open to suggestions, ideas, comments, criticisms, anything you want to bring up to us!
If you have any specific questions, Neriphyra or I would be more than happy to answer them for you
I'll be honest to you now. Maybe too honest...
Borrowed staff is usually worse paid than normally hired staff. This is the first fact I dislike about this. Are the keywords employees equally paid?
The second thing is: I do not understand why.
CM is a role within which you need to stay in contact with many Jagex employees. You need to feed the content team with ideas and tell them what the community wants and what not. You need to advise the marketing team on what makes up the player base and so much more. So in fact: You need to stay in touch with many of the people that are located in the office in Cambridge.
Then borrowed staff is usually meant to work only for a certain amount of time for a company. They can easily be fired and are more expensive than regularly hired staff since there's another company between employee and employer that wants to make a profit.
OSRS Newb Help Initiative
So why use staff that is more expensive and can harder communicate?
Then there's the fact that as you wrote something like "you want us to feel heard". It's harder for someone not actually hired by Jagex to make people being heard by Jagex than for regular staff.
In a way, it feels like Jagex dumped us. Now not even Jmods with a, I'm guessing rather low position, care about us, now it's not even employees by Jagex.
And then there's the question of your experience. Nick and Neriphyra seem to be very well qualified. They might be able to work as counselors for Jagex. But then the role would be different than announced. So where's Jagex heading? "The forums will die out soon so we can use some borrowed staff that can easily be fired when they have died out"?
Is the arrangement fair? Meaning that after six months Neriphyra and Nick have the option to join the regular team if they do well?
I guess I now have expressed some views and doubts. It would be very handy if someone could comment on them. I might have gone a bit too far since how Jagex handles its business is none of my business but I'm quite curious and also a bit worried.
This seems promising! It'd be nice if these two LMods were able to get their JMods account very soon as it has already been four months since this thread was posted. In any case, welcome!
Welcome Keywords! Looks like you've got a reputation to live up to now!
I hope you've settled in to your responsibilities, and you're enjoying working with the team.
Hearing the sort of things you'll be assisting with, makes me jealous! I'd love to be part of the development team, giving the forums a bit more flare.
I'm sure your work will be greatly appreciated, and on behalf of all of the players who aren't active the forums (or know it even exists!),
Thank you!
