Next Raid? I'm a little confused here. What exactly is a Raid in terms of Runescape? I know what a Raid is in other popular MMORPGs, but there's nothing like that in Runescape. I'm not being sarcastic here either, I legitimately want to know the context behind this.
Here, I'll give you this strawberry if you keep it a secret!

Its a new minigame/boss fight update. Basically you jump in another world, fight some mobs, kill a boss. Rewards will be high lvl weapons and armour.
Atleast thats how I see it.

Welcome to the kitchen.

Bags of sugar, cookies, and potted plants with flowers, huge bumble bees, and a table top you better not fall off of.

Who knew the portal for raids would take you to a giant's kitchen? Or did you shrink?
Hi.

Okay, so Jagex is actually going to try and start developing dungeon instances with bosses and what not.

A really unstable battlefield covered in a mixture of black mud and ash, Surrounded by Mountains, Fog and Descending Ash in every direction. The sky should be a dark grey colour to give it a bit of a medieval feel to it all. The battlefield should contain large amounts of Rocks/Boulders, Small Streams of Stagnant water, Dead and or Dying Trees or a Forest even.. Swords, Spears, Crushed Skulls, Mutated or Giant Bones and Skeletons on the ground. It would be pretty cool to see maybe a Wolf or variation of a Hellhound scavenging for food or gnawing on a dead body. Have the mountains a really dark colour and mainly clouded by the fog, Trenches and maybe a few Tunnels or Caves... The character would only be able to see around 15 steps in front of him and maybe shadows or figures in the distance which would also give a perfect situation to add ambushes or something and make it a bit challenging so even high levelled players will be on edge. Also you could probably add in Howls, Footsteps, Stomping in the distance. Its all about imagination ^_^

Feel free to change it around if you would like. :)

An idea I had sometime ago could be either raids from across the River Salve, this could be where monsters such as vyrewatch could attack across the salve and either you could kill them or build a contraption to force them back/kill them. (could also be by working in groups to form chants (or something) - prayer?

This could also be initiated for the wilderness - lower levels - skeletons and other classic wilderness creatures.

another idea could be defending Yanille from ogres or the lumbridge goblin population rising up.

shade/undead incursions from graveyards in Gelinor?

some joke ideas -

teams of adventurers battle against waves of vengeful cows and chickens,

taking into account the old random events - teams of adventurers fighting off evil chickens, shades & any of the other aggressive random events.
To be a flea and never flee

I think you should take a look at World of Warcraft raids. Each raid in here is unique in terms of environment, enemies etc. Sometimes the boss will not be until the end but sometimes you enter an area where the boss comes right away and you aren't prepared for it. Also, WoW raids tell a story and after completing the raid you might see a skirmish between two factions with some beautiful voice acting involved that really tells the story just enough to keep you interested. Brief interactions between opposing factions is a good idea to make raids seem more dangerous when you are fighting one where two or more factions are involved.

Additionally, the bosses need unique abilities that mean new roles are created from raids. Okay, so we have dps, tank, healer, lurer. But in world of warcraft, within that are even smaller vital roles. Some bosses have an attack that splits up the team and that means you have to have tank 1, and tank 2 for when tank 1 gets split from the team. Also boss "enrage" attacks would mean constant provoking to keep teammates alive and ofc seren spellbooks would help to heal. But there shouldn't be just dps for bosses in raids, they should have ridiculously high health that means you have to be very careful during the fight to ensure your tanks live. Another useful thing might be what you used in your grouping interface to see each teammates' lifepoints so players know who needs healing and when. I think you need to add new spells also in the seren spellbook that allow you to boost a target player's stats temporarily to help them tank or damage. Support roles really need to make its way into this game and I think raids is the correct way to do this.

As for a particular raid environment, I think we need to use iconic runescape locations, such as the world gate, battle of lumbridge could open new orange portals to a new type of raid. When released, players would only know where a raid is located and nothing else to make it that much more exciting when entering and seeing the story of it unfold. I think some bosses will have to force you to berserk with melee otherwise they become enraged and deal 2x the damage that berserk would have you take. These sorts of things make use of all combat styles uniquely during raids and keep it fun.

Areas of raid interest definitely need to be:

- Trolls (low-mid level)
- Goblins (mid level)
- Zamorak minions doing some kind of ritual (mid-high level)
- Mahjarret/dragonkin (very high level)

Also, maybe some raids are so dangerous you need the help of the white knights to fight and during the raid you must try to protect them as much as possible because if too many of the knights die then the fight becomes harder later on as the big instakill attacks will be used on you instead of the white knights if they all are to die.
