I am appalled and disgusted by the way the whole thing happened. From the beginning it felt like they weren’t ASKING our opinion, they were merely seeking an endorsement for their already-held beliefs that the wilderness and trade were coming back. The Guinness World Record was a nice touch, well done on that. Had there been a true one-person-one-vote result, and possible discussion BEFORE instituting such a vote and/or petition, then it may be easier for most people to swallow the “overwhelming results* that have occurred. It’s a basic, if not THE basic, principle of negotiation; when people don’t feel like they’ve truly been part of the process, they’re not going to accept the ultimate outcome or answer. They feel steamrolled, like their opinion really did*’t count. The fact that you are listening to opinions AFTER the referendum has closed is a face-saving gesture, and would have been appreciated more BEFORE a referendum was even discussed. That way, you would likely have received more honest feedback regarding a POTENTIAL future update, not responses to something that is now perceived as having been planned all along, and with responses now fraught with emotion rather than rationality.
I admit several things: 1) I will likely keep playing, despite this ridiculous fiasco. I enjoy the game and the release it gives me from my every-day life. 2) I will take every new update and suggested development with a very large grain of salt, considering the methods that were used to bring about this result. And 3) it is unlikely that I will trust any “we value your opinion” spiel that is used on me again, based on these methods.
