Jagex already explained this. This is how the Grand Exchange will work you buy/sell an item and enter the amount your selling/buying for. Thats it! Seeing that you joined right before the removal of free trade and wildy you probably dont know that people regulated the prices just like it was in the medieval era, all based on supply and demand. Back in those days we used RuneHq and ***** for street price. Falador was the trade capitol of world two and thats how it was done.

As someone who's played for over 5 years, I remember the old Runescape with free trade and free wildy. Some of you **em to think all hell's going to break loose.
You should seriously think about how often you spend your time in the wildy, and how many people you see in the wildy today. The wildy used to have a lot more people before than it does now, and that brings an entirely new aspect of making money, having fun, and playing the game. If you don't want to get lured, it's as simple as don't go into the wildy with other people.
Free trade is something that I thought used to make runescape what it was. Prices were ALWAYS constant, I remember when i was playing, a rune scimitar maintained it's price pretty consistently at about 25k and rune 2h was 60k. No one was getting "ripped off", or buying insanely expensive things, and if you did, **u'd learn right away, and that is (or was) part of the game. If anything, you could find bargains from people just trying to get rid of something.
Everyone only thinks of the negative points, especially new players, but the positive points of the game HEAVILY outweigh anything bad. In my opinion, the runescape now is extremely boring. My account really isn't an account made for pking, but I could do pretty well against people my level and that was always a major income for me.
I feel like this game is being overprotective of it's players. There has to be some kind of a risk in a game...and there are now, but I would say pking and free trade was a large amount of that fun.

im with the old wilderness and free trade back 100%, ive been scammed afew times and have learned from it and yeah im more aware of things now - learn from your mistakes i guess ^_^ , i really love to help my close friends out by giving them some items/money now and then, most who are new to runescape, runescape is now in a way pretty much every man/woman for himself/herself, i myself hate seeing this. Now for the wilderness.. I'm really a fair pker who use to pass by and let people get on with there clue scrolls and such and found pking with my friends back then very enjoyable. it just isnt the same now although it still can be pretty fun.. Now there will always be bots, its just inevitable that some hacker will eventually make some even more newly improved gear to get past the system. WERE HUMAN. WE ALL EVOLVE. its why jagex still has these random events no? There's still bots even now otherwise there wouldn't be these random events to combat them. There will be a few more botters and scammers from this but jagex will find a way sooner or later to ban more and more botters without taking away the delicasies, as i said, we all evolve :P

Adding to Egai's point, we have the ability to change the price to what we all think is reasonable and that is something the Grand Exchange can never do, right now you just have to deal with it if the price is too low or too high.
